Mitsubishi has unveiled the fifth-generation Pajero, bringing back the iconic SUV five years after the previous model ended production. The new Pajero retains its rugged character with a ladder-frame chassis, diesel engine & 4WD system.
The SUV also gets a modern exterior, a tech-focused cabin & improved off-road hardware. However, Mitsubishi has no plans to relaunch the Pajero in India at present.
New Mitsubishi Pajero Gets 2.4-Litre Diesel Engine
The fifth-generation Pajero uses a 2.4-litre diesel engine that produces 480 NM of peak torque. Mitsubishi has not yet revealed its maximum power output.
The engine comes with an 8-speed torque-converter automatic gearbox. Power reaches all four wheels through a 4WD system with a low-range transfer case.
The system offers four modes: 2H for rear-wheel drive, 4H for full-time 4WD, 4HLc for a locked centre differential & 4LLc for low-range driving with the centre differential locked.
Mitsubishi Pajero Gets Seven Drive Modes
The new Pajero features seven selectable drive modes to suit different road and terrain conditions. These include Normal, Eco, Gravel, Snow, Mud, Sand & Rock.
The SUV also gets Active Yaw Control, which uses the front brakes to manage torque distribution between the left and right wheels. This system aims to improve stability and traction across different surfaces.
New Pajero Retains Ladder-Frame Chassis
Mitsubishi has retained a ladder-frame chassis for the fifth-generation Pajero. The suspension uses an independent double-wishbone setup at the front and a five-link rigid axle at the rear.
The SUV offers 230 MM of ground clearance, along with a 30.4-degree approach angle, 22.6-degree break-over angle & 25.8-degree departure angle. These figures support its focus on off-road capability.
New Mitsubishi Pajero Gets Modern Exterior
The new Pajero combines the traditional upright SUV shape with a more modern design. The front features connected LED lighting, projector LED headlamps & a large grille with horizontal elements.
The SUV also gets 20-inch black alloy wheels, squared-off wheel arches, side steps & black exterior detailing. At the rear, wraparound LED tail-lamps connect visually with the front lighting design.
Unlike the previous-generation Pajero, the new model does not feature a tailgate-mounted spare wheel. Mitsubishi says the rear design draws inspiration from the spare tyre of the fourth-generation model.
Mitsubishi Pajero Dimensions
The fifth-generation Pajero measures 4,920 MM in length, 1,925 MM in width & 1,910 MM in height. Its wheelbase measures 2,870 MM.
For comparison, the new Pajero is longer, wider & taller than the Toyota Fortuner. It also has a longer wheelbase, which could benefit cabin space and overall road presence.
New Pajero Interior & Features
Inside, the new Pajero gets a black-and-tan cabin with a modern dashboard layout. It features two 14.5-inch screens for the digital instrument cluster & infotainment system.
Mitsubishi has retained physical controls for important functions, including the air conditioning system. The infotainment system can also display information such as pitch, roll & tyre angle.
The SUV gets three rows of seats with space for seven passengers. Other features include three-zone climate control, ventilated front seats, a 12-speaker Yamaha sound system & leatherette upholstery.
Mitsubishi Pajero Gets Advanced Safety Features
The new Pajero comes with eight airbags and a 360-degree camera system. The camera system can also provide an under-bonnet view to help the driver during difficult off-road sections.
The SUV also gets an advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) package. These features add active safety technology while retaining the physical controls preferred for off-road driving.
Prices In India
Mitsubishi has not announced an India launch for the fifth-generation Pajero. Therefore, there is no official India price at present.
The SUV will first launch in Thailand, followed by Japan & Australia by March 2027. Mitsubishi also plans to introduce the new Pajero in around 100 countries, including selected ASEAN, Latin American & Middle Eastern markets.
New Mitsubishi Pajero India Launch
The Mitsubishi Pajero has a strong history in India, where it first arrived in 2002. The model gained a loyal following before Mitsubishi discontinued it in the country in 2018.
However, the new fifth-generation Pajero is not currently planned for India. As a result, Indian buyers will have to wait for any future announcement from Mitsubishi regarding a possible return of the SUV.
