Mini has launched the Cooper S Convertible in India at ₹58.50 lakh. It is positioned as the most affordable convertible car currently on sale in the country. The model arrives as a completely built unit (CBU) and is offered in a single, fully loaded variant. This launch marks the drop top version of the Cooper S hatchback and follows recent Mini introductions like the Countryman SE All4 and JCW All4. The Cooper S Convertible targets buyers looking for a compact fun-to-drive car with open roof appeal rather than outright practicality. Deliveries are expected to begin shortly, with availability dependent on imports.
Classic Mini Styling

The Cooper S Convertible retains the familiar Mini design language, which includes circular LED headlamps with DRL rings and an octagonal grille with red S badging. The soft top roof is finished in black fabric and operates electrically. It can open in 18 seconds and close in 15 seconds at speeds of up to 30 KM/H. Mini also offers a sunroof mode, which partially slides the roof back for added flexibility. At the rear, the car features Union Jack styled LED tail lamps and a distinctive drop down tailgate that can support up to 80 kg, doubling as a temporary seat. The Cooper S Convertible gets standard 17‑inch dual‑tone alloy wheels and plastic cladding running throughout the body.
Minimalist Cabin With Premium Features

Inside, the Cooper S Convertible follows a clean and modern layout with a knitted black and beige dashboard finish. The centrepiece is a circular 9.4-inch OLED touchscreen that controls infotainment and vehicle function. It also gets wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The car comes equipped with powered front seats, including a massage function for the driver, along with a head up display and Harman Kardon sound system. Other features include ambient lighting, wireless charging, dual zone climate control and a rear view camera. Boot capacity stands at 215 litres, which reduces to 160 litres when the roof is folded down.
Turbo Petrol Performance

Powering the Mini Cooper S Convertible is a 2.0-litre, four cylinder turbo petrol engine that produces 204 HP and 300 NM of torque. This engine is paired exclusively with a 7-speed dual clutch automatic gearbox that drives the front wheels. Mini claims a 0 to 100 KM/H sprint time of 6.9 seconds, which is slightly slower than the hardtop Cooper S due to added weight. Top speed is rated at 237 KM/H, while the claimed fuel efficiency stands at 16.82 KM/L. There is no manual transmission option on offer for the convertible.
A Lifestyle Choice With Limited Alternatives

At ₹58.50 lakh, the Cooper S Convertible is positioned as a lifestyle oriented offering rather than a mainstream purchase. It does not have a direct rival in India, though it can be seen as an alternative to performance hatchbacks like the Volkswagen Golf GTI. Its strengths lie in compact dimensions, open top driving and strong performance figures. It comes with its own set of cons too, like limited rear space and a smaller boot. For buyers seeking a distinctive convertible experience in a compact package, the Cooper S Convertible fills a niche that remains largely unoccupied in the Indian market.
