MG Majestor Enters India’s Full-Size SUV Segment

MG Motor has launched the Majestor SUV in India at a starting price of Rs 40.99 lakh. The Majestor replaces the Gloster as the brand’s flagship ICE SUV. It enters the competitive full-size three-row SUV segment and rivals models like the Toyota Fortuner, Jeep Meridian, Volkswagen Tayron and Skoda Kodiaq.

Prices In India

The MG Majestor is available in Sharp and Savvy trims. However, MG has currently revealed prices only for the Savvy variants. The SUV is offered in both 6-seat and 7-seat layouts.

VariantPrice
Savvy 4×2 AT 7-SeaterRs 40.99 Lakh
Savvy 4×2 AT 6-SeaterRs 40.99 Lakh
Savvy 4×4 AT 7-SeaterRs 44.99 Lakh

The Majestor undercuts the top-spec Fortuner Legender and GR-S variants. However, the standard Fortuner 4×4 diesel AT remains more affordable.

Exterior Design & Styling Updates

The MG Majestor receives major cosmetic changes over the Gloster. Up front, the SUV gets slimmer LED DRLs, vertically stacked headlamps and a larger grille. The bumper design also looks more upright and rugged. MG has added prominent ‘MORRIS GARAGES’ lettering across the front section.

The side profile remains similar to the Gloster. However, the SUV now features new 19-inch alloy wheels, chunkier tyres and revised body cladding. At the rear, the connected LED tail-lamps and redesigned bumper give the Majestor a more modern appearance.

Cabin Layout & Interior Features

Inside, the Majestor gets a new all-black cabin theme with an updated dashboard layout. The SUV offers both second-row bench seating and captain seat configurations. The captain chairs feature reclining and sliding functions along with individual armrests.

Boot capacity stands at 343 litres with all seats in place. Folding the third row expands luggage space to 1,350 litres. The SUV also gets revised AC vents, a redesigned centre console and additional storage areas.

Features & Technology Package

The MG Majestor comes loaded with premium comfort and safety features. The SUV offers dual 12.3-inch displays for infotainment and instrumentation. Other highlights include a panoramic sunroof, connected car technology and a 12-speaker JBL audio system.

Additional equipment includes 64-colour ambient lighting, dual wireless chargers and a 360-degree camera. MG also offers Level 2 ADAS, three drive modes, and multiple off-road terrain settings. A DPF alert and clearance system is also part of the package.

Engine & Gearbox Details

The Majestor continues with the Gloster’s 2.0-litre twin-turbo diesel engine. The motor produces 215 HP and 479 NM. An 8-speed torque-converter automatic gearbox handles transmission duties.

The SUV is currently the only model in its segment to offer a twin-turbo diesel setup. Four-wheel-drive variants are also available for buyers looking for additional off-road capability.

Driving Experience & Performance

The 2.0-litre diesel engine focuses more on long-distance comfort than quick city performance. The strong mid-range makes highway cruising effortless. However, turbo lag below 2,000 RPM remains noticeable during urban driving conditions.

The automatic gearbox delivers smooth shifts during relaxed driving. Still, shift response can feel slightly slow during sudden acceleration inputs. The Majestor’s large dimensions and ladder-frame construction continue to prioritise stability and touring comfort.

Rivals & Market Position

The MG Majestor enters a segment dominated by established SUVs like the Toyota Fortuner. It also competes with newer premium offerings such as the Volkswagen Tayron and Skoda Kodiaq.

Compared to the Jeep Meridian, the Majestor commands a higher asking price. However, MG counters that with a larger feature list, twin-turbo diesel engine and multiple seating configurations. The Majestor now becomes MG’s flagship diesel SUV for the Indian market.
