MG Motor India is preparing to introduce its new electric MPV, the M9, on July 21. Bookings opened in May with a token payment of Rs 51,000. The model is the manufacturer’s first all-electric people carrier in India, imported via the CKD route and assembled locally. The M9 will be sold exclusively through the MG Select dealership network, with the launch price expected between Rs. 65-70 Lakh (ex-showroom).
Design & Build

The MG M9 measures 5270 MM in length, 2000 MM in width, and 1840 MM in height, with a 3200 MM wheelbase. It is the largest MPV in the segment by exterior size. The boxy shell features a front fascia equipped with LED DRLs and LED headlamps. At the rear, a tailgate with a sculpted bumper is visible. The MPV can be specified in three colour options for India: Mystic Grey, Luminous White, and Cardiff Black. Large 19-inch alloy wheels support the vehicle’s proportions.
Powertrain & Performance

A 90 KWH nickel-manganese-cobalt battery powers the M9, mounted below the floor. A single front-axle electric motor produces 245 BHP and 350 NM of torque. MG states a top speed of 180KM/H. According to company data, the range on a single charge reaches 548 KM by internal measurement, but the real-world range will likely be lower.

The car supports up to a 160 KW DC fast charger. Fast charging enables the battery to reach full capacity in 90 minutes. The home or office-compatible 11 KW AC charger takes up to 10 hours for zero-to-full charging. Users can also access MG’s public charging station network via the eHUB app.
Interior & Features

Second-row seats in the M9 feature heating, ventilation, massage, and ottoman footrests. The interior is equipped with a 12.3-inch front touchscreen and a 12-speaker sound system. Rear passengers have access to individual entertainment screens. Two sunroofs are present: a single pane for the front row and a dual-pane for the rear. Ambient cabin lighting with 64 selectable colours is also standard.
Safety

Safety features include seven airbags, ADAS Level 2, a 360-degree camera, adaptive cruise control, forward collision avoidance assist, and tyre pressure monitoring. The Maxus MIFA 9, the same car being sold under a different name in Europe, car has scored a 5-star crash test rating in the Euro NCAP.
Conclusion

The MG M9 will be available in a single, fully equipped variant. Bookings are open through the MG Select showroom network. The official price announcement is scheduled for July 21. Competing models in this range include the Toyota Vellfire (lower varaints), Kia Carnival, and, by feature set & price point, the Lexus ES. We expect the pricing to be upwards of Rs 60 Lakh.
