JSW MG Motor India has inaugurated its first MG Select outlet centre in Thane, Maharashtra, marking its first step into a more premium retail format. It seems to draw inspiration from art galleries with clean white interiors and a minimalist layout with the aim to give customers a fresh take on luxury car buying. Vehicles are displayed as centrepieces within open space, providing an immersive experience rather than the typical sales-heavy showroom setup. With plans to launch 14 such centres across 13 cities by the end of Q3 2025, the company is clearly exploring new approaches to customer engagement in higher-end segments.

Flagship Models Take The Spotlight

Two models currently showcased at the Thane outlet, the M9 MPV and the Cyberster electric roadster, will be available for booking exclusively through these MG Select locations. Both models are new to the Indian market and not yet officially priced, but their presence indicates the company’s intention to create a distinct path for its more premium offerings. While MG has launched several mass-market vehicles in India previously, these Select centres focus solely on premium models, setting them apart from standard MG dealerships and suggests a separation between its mainstream and high-end strategies.

Broader Context Behind The Launch

This move comes at a time when several carmakers are trying to rebrand themselves amid growing demand for premium and electric vehicles in India. MG’s Select initiative could be viewed as a response to this shift, particularly as brands look to build stronger customer experiences around higher-margin models. While the company continues its operations via collaboration with JSW and has a manufacturing plant in Gujarat, other crucial concerns such as EV supply chains and sourcing challenges, including access to rare earth materials, remain important factors shaping the company’s future plans. How successful this format proves to be will likely depend on long-term customer verdict and how it compares to the conventional retail approaches.
