Mercedes-Benz have updated the S-Class for India, bringing in some new features and a very important mechanical update. Only the higher spec S 450 4Matic and S 580 Maybach variants that have been refreshed. Prices start at ₹1.77 crore (ex-showroom) with the S 350d being the base model.

S 450 4Matic Updates

The most noteworthy feature additions for the S 450 are the new seatbelt integrated airbags for the rear passengers and the centre airbag between the two front seats. Also, it gets the carmakers ‘energizing air purification’ package with a dedicated air quality menu in the central infotainment touchscreen MBUX display.

The automaker has also introduced a new exterior and interior color pack: an Emerald Green Metallic exterior paint shade with a Sienna Brown/Black interior. With all these updates, the S 450 is now priced at ₹1.88 crore (ex-showroom), which is up by ₹1.45 lakh over its predecessor. It is powered by a twin turbocharged 3.0 litre V6 petrol engine that produces 367 HP and 500 N-m of torque.

S 580 Maybach Upgrades

The key mechanical overhaul comes in the S 580, which now gets a rear axle steering up to 10 degrees. Given the limousine’s stretched proportions, this is a very welcome feature addition. Mercedes had initially offered the rear axle steering with the launch edition of the S-Class back in 2021, but later removed it when they began local assembly. However, it continued to be available on the fully imported S 680 Maybach.

Other upgrades include the addition of the centre airbag in between both the front seats, just like the S 450 and the new ‘Manufaktur’ Rubellite Red Metallic color option with a Maybach specific Macchiato Beige/Magma Grey cabin. The S 580 is now priced at ₹2.74 crore (ex-showroom), ₹2.05 lakh more than before. It is powered by a twin turbocharged 4.0 litre V8 petrol engine with a 48-volt mild hybrid setup and makes 496 HP, 700 N-m of torque; mated to an all-wheel-drive (AWD) system.
