Mercedes-Benz has revised the prices of its E-Class Long Wheelbase (LWB) in India, with reductions going up to ₹5.2 lakh. The adjustment comes in response to the new GST 2.0 structure, which has lowered the tax slab on large luxury sedans. This makes the E-Class LWB more accessible to potential buyers. It also signals how government tax reforms are affecting car pricing. This could encourage other automakers to reconsider pricing strategies for their lineup too.

What Caused The Price Cut

The reduction in prices is directly linked to the GST 2.0 framework that has reclassified certain passenger vehicles. Large sedans like the Mercedes E-Class LWB previously attracted higher taxes due to their dimensions and engine capacity. With the revised system, GST rate for larger passenger vehicles has been brought down to 40% from the earlier 45–50% (including cess), creating a direct benefit for buyers. For Mercedes-Benz, this allows for a more competitive pricing of its best-selling luxury sedan in India.

Revised Pricing Across Variants

Depending on the trim, buyers will now see a significant difference in the ex-showroom prices, as shown below:

VariantPrice before
GST reform
Price after
GST reform
Price Difference
E200₹83 Lakh₹78.5 Lakh₹4.5 Lakh
E220d₹85 Lakh₹80.5 Lakh₹4.5 Lakh
E450 AMG Line₹96.9 Lakh₹91.7 Lakh₹5.2 Lakh

These reductions bring the E-Class LWB into a price band that strengthens its appeal against rivals such as the BMW 5 Series and Audi A6. For customers, the revised rates mean that higher trims with more features and performance can now be considered without stretching budgets as much as before. In a segment where such changes in pricing can influence purchase decisions, these adjustments could significantly impact buyer choices.

Powertrain Options & New Shade

The E200 is powered by a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder turbo-petrol engine that produces 201 BHP and 320 NM. The E220d features a 2.0-litre diesel engine that makes 194 BHP and 440 NM. The E450 gets a bigger 3.0-liter, 6-cylinder turbo-petrol engine that makes 375 BHP and 500 NM, which sends power to all four wheels via Mercedes’ 4Matic all-wheel drive system. All engines are paired with a 48V mild-hybrid system and a 9-speed automatic transmission. These options allow the consumer to choose from multiple powertrains as per their liking.

Mercedes has also announced a new exterior colour option to celebrate the first anniversary of the new E-Class LWB in India. The car is now available with a new ‘Verde Silver’ shade.

Impact Of The Price Cut

Price revisions of this scale in the luxury car market are rare and tend to influence purchase decisions strongly. For those who were about to purchase a high-end sedan, the lowered rates may serve as a timely push. Dealers are likely to witness stronger interest in the coming months, especially as the festive season approaches. Beyond immediate sales, the change highlights how tax reforms can affect the affordability landscape in the premium segment. As a result, the overall segment could see a uplift in demand. Such reforms also encourage other luxury brands to bring more models to India, further expanding customer choice.
