Mercedes-Benz Integrates Microsoft Into Infotainment

1 min read

Mercedes-Benz owners could soon be attending board meetings from behind the wheel. The German luxury automaker has announced a partnership with Microsoft that brings Teams video calling directly to their vehicles – complete with in-car camera support while driving.

“Office On Wheels”

Mercedes-Benz has enabled in-car camera functionality for Microsoft Teams meetings while the vehicle is in motion. Starting with the all-new CLA launching in 2025, drivers can participate in video conferences using the car’s built-in camera, fundamentally reimagining the concept of mobile workspace.

The system operates through Mercedes’ new MB.OS operating system powering the fourth-generation MBUX infotainment platform. When activated, other meeting participants can see the driver on camera, but safety regulations ensure the driver’s screen automatically hides any shared content, presentations, or video streams from other participants once the vehicle starts moving.

Microsoft Integration

Mercedes-Benz is also working to natively integrate Microsoft Intune into its vehicle operating system, allowing business users to securely log in with corporate accounts while maintaining clear separation between personal and professional data. Perhaps most intriguing is the planned integration of Microsoft 365 Copilot, marking one of the first automotive applications of generative AI. Using voice commands, drivers will be able to summarise emails, retrieve client information, and manage daily tasks without physical interaction with devices.

Technology & Infrastructure Requirements

The system requires Mercedes’ Entertainment Package Plus subscription, which includes comprehensive data plans for cloud connectivity. This is a subscription model, with automakers now charging you to continue using features and functionality you already paid for in your vehicle, solely to generate new revenue streams! The MB.OS platform features Google Maps Platform integration, YouTube streaming capabilities, and AI-powered voice assistance.

Implementation Timeline & Availability

The enhanced Teams integration debuts with the new CLA model, with gradual rollout to other MB.OS-powered vehicles. Initial availability focuses on European and US markets before expanding globally. The Indian market introduction depends on regulatory approvals and infrastructure readiness, though Mercedes typically launches such features in India within 12-18 months of global debut.
