Mercedes-AMG has unveiled the all-new CLA 45 4MATIC+, bringing back its entry-level performance sedan with a completely new identity. Unlike the previous-generation model that used a turbo-petrol engine, the new CLA 45 adopts a fully electric powertrain with significantly more power and advanced technology. Moreover, buyers can choose between Sedan and Shooting Brake body styles.
Powertrain & Performance
Mercedes-AMG powers the new CLA 45 with a 94 KWH LFP battery and three axial-flux electric motors. One motor sits on the front axle, while the remaining two power the rear axle. Compared to conventional electric motors, axial-flux units are lighter, more compact, and deliver higher power density.
Together, the three motors produce up to 680 HP and a massive 1,759 NM of torque. Furthermore, the front motor disconnects during steady cruising to improve efficiency, allowing the car to operate as a rear-wheel-drive model. Meanwhile, the rear motors independently distribute torque to enable torque vectoring and a dedicated Drift Mode.
Acceleration, Range & Charging
Despite weighing nearly 2.3 tonnes, the CLA 45 delivers outstanding performance. The Sedan accelerates from 0 to 100 KM/H in just 3.0 seconds, while the Shooting Brake completes the sprint in 3.2 seconds.
The top speed remains electronically limited to 250 KM/H. However, buyers can increase it to 270 KM/H by opting for the AMG Dynamic Plus Package. In addition, the Sedan offers a WLTP-certified range of up to 670 KM, while the Shooting Brake delivers up to 640 KM.
The CLA 45 also supports DC fast charging at up to 330 KW. As a result, the battery charges from 10 to 80 percent in only 22 minutes. Moreover, a quick 10-minute charge adds up to 270 KM of driving range.
Exterior Design & Styling

Mercedes-AMG has given the CLA 45 a far more aggressive appearance than the standard electric CLA. It features a redesigned AMG grille with 10 vertical slats, larger air intakes, wider fenders, sportier side skirts, and a prominent rear diffuser.
Furthermore, the Sedan gets an active rear spoiler, while the Shooting Brake features a roof-mounted spoiler. Standard 19-inch alloy wheels complete the package, although buyers can upgrade to larger 20-inch wheels.
Interior & Features

Inside, the CLA 45 combines luxury with a motorsport-inspired layout. The cabin features AMG bucket seats, an AMG steering wheel with dedicated drive mode controls, and an all-black interior with contrasting accents.
Meanwhile, Mercedes-Benz’s Hyperscreen dominates the dashboard with three integrated displays. The digital instrument cluster also includes a virtual tachometer and gear indicator that work alongside the simulated driving modes. Unlike the standard CLA, the AMG version replaces the rear bench with two individual seats, creating a four-seat layout.
AMGFORCE S+ Enhances Driving Experience
Mercedes-AMG has developed the new AMGFORCE S+ mode to recreate the excitement of a petrol-powered performance car. The system simulates the sound of AMG’s M139 turbocharged engine while also mimicking gear shifts, power interruptions, and seat vibrations.
Consequently, drivers can enjoy a more engaging driving experience despite the car’s fully electric powertrain.
Prices In India
Mercedes-AMG has not announced the official price of the all-electric CLA 45. Likewise, the company has not confirmed its India launch timeline.
However, if Mercedes-Benz introduces the model in India, it is expected to cost significantly more than the standard CLA Electric because of its high-performance electric drivetrain and AMG-specific upgrades.
Rivals In India
If launched in India, the Mercedes-AMG CLA 45 will compete with premium electric performance cars such as the BMW i4 M50, Audi RS e-tron GT, Porsche Taycan, and the upcoming Tesla Model 3 Performance, depending on pricing.
Conclusion

The new Mercedes-AMG CLA 45 marks a major shift for AMG’s entry-level performance car. Instead of relying on a turbocharged petrol engine, it now delivers exceptional performance through a powerful three-motor electric powertrain.
Moreover, the combination of 680 HP, advanced torque vectoring, rapid charging, and AMG-specific driving technologies ensures the CLA 45 remains true to the brand’s performance heritage. Although Mercedes-Benz has not confirmed an India launch, the new electric sports sedan highlights AMG’s vision for the future of high-performance mobility.
