Mercedes-Benz India have launched the new AMG G 63 facelift in the country with the prices starting from ₹3.60 crore (ex-showroom) onwards. This update brings in subtle exterior cosmetic changes, some new features and a few mechanical upgrades.
It gets a mildly altered front bumper with vertical slats, a dark chrome finish radiator grille. The a-pillars have been slightly rounded and a new lip on the windscreen has been added to improve aerodynamic efficiency and reduce NVH levels, inspired by the electric version. At the rear, it gets an optional carbon fibre finished spare wheel cover. It also now features keyless entry for the very first time, requiring substantial work to install without redesigning the iconic door handles.
On the inside, it now gets the same MBUX infotainment system as seen on the GLS facelift, meaning it has two 12.3 inch screens and adds wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto. It also has an 18 speaker, 760 Watt Burmester sound system and a new three spoke AMG performance steering wheel.
The off-road ‘control centre’ on the dashboard has been revamped as well for easier access to key functions. Also gets temperature controlled cup holders and a wireless phonee charger. As many as 31 unique ‘Manufaktur’ interior upholstery options and 29 ‘Manufaktur’ paint shades are available in addition to the standard colors.
It now gets the 48 Volt mild hybrid tech in conjuction with the ‘M177’ twin-turbo 3,982cc V8 petrol engine that produces 585 HP and 850 N-m of torque as before, but now has an additional 22 HP boost from the mild hybrid system in reserve/when needed. Continues with the same nine speed DCT automatic gearbox and paddle shifters.
Optional ‘AMG Active Ride Control’ is on offer, which is the carmaker’s hydraulic, anti-rollbar free suspension technology. Comes standard on the ‘AMG Performance pack’, which pushes the top speed to up to 240 km/h. The SUV does 0-100 km/h in 4.3 seconds and gets launch control for the first time.
Comes with 229 mm of ground clearance, a water wading capacity of 700 mm, a 31 degree approach angle and the ability to remain stable on inclines of up to 35 degrees. 22 inch alloy wheels and a centre-locking differential are available as options.
The automaker has stated that the first batch of 120 units have already been booked and customers who reserve their G 63 now will get deliveries by 2025 Q3.
