Maruti Suzuki has introduced a new swivel seat option for the Wagon R, aimed at improving accessibility for senior citizens and people with disabilities. The feature is offered as a retrofit kit rather than a factory-installed variant, which allows it to be added to both new and existing cars. The rollout has begun as a pilot project across more than 200 Arena dealerships in 11 cities, with further expansion planned based on customer demand. Importantly, the company has not announced pricing for the swivel seat yet. By choosing the Wagon R for this initiative, Maruti has targeted one of its most widely used hatchbacks, which already benefits from a tall-boy stance that aids easier entry and exit.
How The Swivel Seat Works & What It Changes

The swivel seat replaces neither the structure nor the original design of the car. Instead, it allows the front passenger seat to rotate outward, helping occupants sit down or stand up with less strain. The installation process takes under an hour and does not require cutting or welding of the body shell. Wagon R models from the 2019 model year onwards are eligible for this retrofit. The factory-fitted seat remains intact, which helps preserve safety and resale value. The added mechanism complements the Wagon R’s high seating position, which has long been one of its practical strengths in urban use.
Safety Testing, Warranty & Wider Implications

Maruti Suzuki has confirmed that the Automotive Research Association of India has tested the swivel seat kit and that it meets the required safety standards. Buyers also receive a three-year warranty covering manufacturing defects, adding reassurance for long-term use. The company has developed the system in partnership with Bengaluru-based startup TRUEAssist Technology. The feature is currently available in select cities, and its success could encourage similar adaptations in other high-volume models. For a car that already sells in large numbers, this update marks a practical step toward more inclusive mobility rather than a cosmetic upgrade.
