1 min read

Maruti Suzuki is all set to introduce a new midsize SUV internally codenamed the Y17, to the market on 3 September 2025.The upcoming model will be positioned between the Brezza and Grand Vitara, and retailed through the company’s Arena dealership network. The name has not been confirmed.

Powertrain

The car will offer three powertrains. The base variant will be powered by the familiar 1.5‑litre naturally aspirated petrol engine producing 103 HP, paired with a 5‑speed manual or 6‑speed automatic transmission. An all-wheel-drive variant of this petrol-automatic combination will also be available.

A factory-fitted CNG version of the same engine, generating 88 HP, will be on offer too. At the top end of the lineup, the car will feature a petrol-electric hybrid system producing 116 HP, similar to what is currently offered in the Grand Vitara hybrid.

Position In Maruti’s Lineup

Maruti-Suzuki-Nexa

Maruti has 600 NEXA outlets but over 3,000 Arena showrooms. Being an Arena product gives this car more reach than the Grand Vitara, which is aimed at more premium buyers. The car is expected to offer a more accessible price structure and a broader engine mix.

Gradual Shift Toward Electrification

Maruti has publicly stated intentions to introduce a broader range of alternative fuel vehicles, including flex-fuel, hybrid, and electric models over the next few years. The inclusion of a strong hybrid system in a non-Nexa car, previously exclusive to the Grand Vitara, is notable.

Rival manufacturers, including Hyundai/Kia and Skoda/Volkswagen, are also expected to introduce hybrid variants in this segment by 2027.

Conclusion & Pricing

This model is designed to expand its presence in the high-volume midsize SUV segment dominated by the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, and its own Grand Vitara. The car will share Suzuki’s Global-C platform with the Grand Vitara, Urban Cruiser Hyryder and the Brezza.

Pricing is likely to fall between Rs 11 Lakh and Rs 20 Lakh (ex-showroom), depending on variant and powertrain. The model will compete directly with the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Honda Elevate, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun and the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder.
