Maruti Suzuki has launched the Wagon R Bioflex in India at ₹7.24 lakh (ex-showroom). The new flex-fuel hatchback is based on the top-spec ZXi+ 1.2 Petrol Manual variant. However, it costs ₹86,000 more than the standard model. The Wagon R Bioflex supports fuel blends containing up to 85% ethanol, making it one of Maruti’s latest steps toward cleaner mobility solutions.

Prices In India

The Maruti Suzuki Wagon R Bioflex carries an ex-showroom price of ₹7.24 lakh. It costs ₹86,000 more than the standard Wagon R ZXi+ Manual, which retails at ₹6.38 lakh. However, Maruti currently offers the Bioflex version only to commercial buyers. Therefore, private customers cannot purchase this variant at the moment.

Flex-Fuel Engine & Performance

The Wagon R Bioflex uses Maruti Suzuki’s trusted 1.2-litre four-cylinder K12N Petrol engine. It produces 91 HP and 114 NM of torque, matching the standard E20-compatible version. Moreover, the engine pairs with a 5-speed manual gearbox. Maruti has upgraded the fuel injectors, fuel pump, ECU, fuel lines, and ethanol sensor to support fuel blends of up to E85.

Fuel Efficiency & Running Costs

Maruti has not announced the official mileage figures for the Bioflex model yet. Meanwhile, the standard Wagon R delivers up to 23.56 KM/L with the manual gearbox. Although E85 fuel generally costs less than E20, it also returns lower fuel efficiency. Therefore, buyers should consider both fuel prices and mileage before calculating long-term running costs.

Exterior Design & Interior Updates

The Wagon R Bioflex closely resembles the standard hatchback. However, it receives exclusive ‘Flex Fuel’ decals on the sides and a ‘Bioflex’ badge on the tailgate. Inside, the cabin retains the familiar black-and-beige theme with fabric seats. In addition, the dashboard layout and three-spoke steering wheel remain unchanged.

Features & Safety Equipment

Maruti has equipped the Wagon R Bioflex with several modern features. It includes a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wired Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Moreover, buyers get manual air conditioning with rear vents, power windows, four speakers, and front fog lamps. Safety equipment includes six airbags, Electronic Stability Program (ESP), rear parking sensors, and ORVM-mounted turn indicators.

Market Position In India

The Wagon R Bioflex targets commercial buyers looking for an alternative fuel solution. It costs more than the Wagon R Tour H3, which uses a smaller 1.0-litre Petrol engine. However, the Bioflex offers better performance with its 1.2-litre engine and compatibility with higher ethanol fuel blends. Consequently, it supports India’s growing focus on cleaner transportation.

Conclusion

The Maruti Suzuki Wagon R Bioflex introduces flexible fuel technology to one of India’s most popular hatchbacks. It combines familiar performance with the ability to run on E85 fuel. Moreover, it retains the practical features and spacious cabin that buyers expect from the Wagon R. Although Maruti currently limits sales to commercial customers, the Bioflex marks an important step toward alternative fuel mobility in India.
