Maruti Suzuki Fronx Hybrid Spied

36 sec read

Maruti Suzuki is reportedly working on a self-developed strong hybrid powertrain for its mass-market products. The new technology is said to debut on the Fronx, one of Maruti’s most popular cars.

Design

A test mule was caught on the streets of Gurgaon, with absolutely no camouflage whatsoever. It looks identical to the current Maruti Fronx, except with a Hybrid badge. The current model has a different Hybrid badge, on the left-hand side of the boot lid. This one has the badge Maruti uses on its other strong hybrid models, placed on the right-hand side of the boot lid.

Technical Information

The hybrid system is expected to be based on Maruti’s newest Z12E engine, featuring a series hybrid setup, similar to Honda’s e:HEV technology. The petrol engine acts as a generator, which charges the battery, and provides power to the motor. The engine does not directly drive the car. The car is rumoured to have outstanding fuel efficiency, up to 40 KM/L, but again, only time will tell.
