The Hyundai Creta is a leader in the Indian compact SUV market. Maruti Suzuki may have launched the Grand Vitara, to enter the SUV market, however, the Creta sales keep blooming. To put it into perspective, the combined sales of the Grand Vitara and its rebadged Toyota version, the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, still lag behind Creta in sales. The Maruti Suzuki eVX could be Maruti’s answer to the Creta.
Details About The Maruti Suzuki eVX
Maruti unveiled the eVX in the 2023 Auto Expo. As the name might have suggested, the eVX will be set on an electric platform. The prototype gave a basic idea of how the road-going unit would look like. The dimensions resemble Hyundai Creta’s at 4300mm x 1800mm x 1600mm [length x width x height]. Maruti Suzuki claims that its 60 kWh can provide a range of 550 km.
Maruti Suzuki like to call the eVX as the “Emotional Versatile Cruiser”. The spied unit was camouflaged, meaning most of the design elements weren’t visible. However, the prototype gives a basic outline. A high stance, slim LED headlights and taillights are few features you can expect on the road-going unit. However, the aggressive body language from the prototype seems to be lost in the test subject.
Expected Launch?
Hyundai India also intends to go electric with the Creta. And as expected, it would cost more than the fuel-powered alternative. The prices for the Creta EV are expected to exceed 22 lakh rupees. Maruti Suzuki could price it more attractively to gain an edge. Rumours suggest that the eVX pricing would start in the 20 lakh rupee range. The launch is set for late 2024 or early 2025.
If Maruti Suzuki fills the eVX with features, like ADAS and 360-degree parking camera, and prices it appropriately, this could help Maruti Suzuki get a grip on the Indian EV market. The prototype looks and sounds promising. Only time will tell how well the road-going version would fare in the market.
