The Maruti Suzuki Ertiga has crossed the 15 lakh domestic sales milestone, becoming one of India’s most successful MPVs. Since its launch in March 2012, the seven-seater has sold 15,13,574 units in the domestic market through August 2026. The Ertiga also accounts for around 7 percent of Maruti Suzuki’s total passenger vehicle sales since its introduction.

Maruti Suzuki’s UV Market Leadership

The Ertiga, alongside the Brezza, has played an important role in Maruti Suzuki’s utility vehicle (UV) growth. The automaker has remained India’s largest UV manufacturer for nine consecutive fiscal years since FY2018.

In FY2018, Maruti Suzuki sold 2,53,759 UVs, narrowly overtaking Mahindra & Mahindra’s 2,33,915 units. Since then, the company has retained its position at the top of the UV market.

The Ertiga has remained India’s No. 1 MPV for eight consecutive fiscal years. Moreover, it has consistently featured among the country’s top-selling vehicles each month.

The MPV recorded its highest annual sales in FY2026, when it sold 1,98,327 units. It ranked third in the overall UV segment that year, behind the Tata Nexon with 2,16,054 units and Hyundai Creta with 2,01,921 units.

Ertiga Sales Continue To Grow

The Ertiga narrowly missed the two-lakh annual sales milestone in FY2026, falling short by just 1,673 units. However, its sales momentum has strengthened in FY2027.

The MPV recorded 95,646 units between April and August 2026. Additionally, July 2026 marked its highest monthly sales since launch, with 21,606 units. Based on this momentum, Maruti expects the Ertiga to surpass 2.25 lakh units during FY2027.

Powertrain & Specifications

The Ertiga uses a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine producing 103 HP and 139 NM. It is available with a 5-speed manual or 6-speed automatic gearbox.

Additionally, the MPV gets a factory-fitted CNG powertrain paired exclusively with a manual transmission. The petrol version has a claimed efficiency of up to 20.51 KM/L, while the CNG version returns up to 26.11 KM/KG according to ARAI testing.

Rivals In India

The Ertiga competes primarily with the Kia Carens and Toyota Rumion in India’s seven-seat MPV segment. Meanwhile, its combination of three-row practicality, multiple powertrain options and relatively low running costs has helped it maintain strong sales over the years.

Verdict

The 15 lakh sales milestone highlights the Ertiga’s sustained presence in India’s MPV market. Furthermore, sales have continued to rise despite increasing competition from SUVs and other three-row models. With nearly one lakh units already sold in the first five months of FY2027, the Ertiga is on course for another strong fiscal year.
