The Maruti Suzuki e Vitara has secured a 5-star Bharat NCAP rating, marking a major milestone for the brand as it enters the electric SUV segment. The model recorded 31.49/32 points in adult occupant protection (AOP) and 43/49 points in child occupant protection (COP), becoming India’s first electric SUV to achieve this rating under the new crash-test protocol. The e Vitara joins other top-rated Maruti models such as the Dzire, Victoris and Invicto, all of which have achieved 5-star ratings from BNCAP.

Bharat NCAP awarded the e Vitara high marks for structural strength, battery safety and occupant protection. Built on the new HEARTECT-e architecture, the EV integrates reinforced crash structures, a high-voltage safety layout and an energy-absorbing battery protection system. In the frontal offset deformable barrier test, the e Vitara scored 15.49/16, offering good protection to the driver’s head, neck, pelvis, thighs and feet, while the chest and tibias received adequate protection. Passenger protection scored even higher.

In the side impact and side pole tests, the SUV delivered 16/16 points, offering good protection to all critical regions including the head, chest, abdomen and pelvis. Child occupant protection performance was equally strong. The SUV scored a full 24/24 dynamic score and 12/12 in CRS installation, largely due to its well-marked ISOFIX anchorages. Both 18-month-old and 3-year-old child dummies sat in rear-facing seats and achieved full points in both frontal and side tests. The model lost only 6 points in the vehicle assessment area, resulting in a total COP score of 43/49.

Maruti equips the e Vitara with a comprehensive standard safety package across all variants. Every trim features seven airbags (including a driver knee airbag), ESC, ABS with EBD, hill-hold assist, multi-collision braking, TPMS and ISOFIX mounts. Higher variants add features such as a 360-degree camera, electronic parking brake with auto-hold, and front and rear parking sensors. The e Vitara also includes Level 2 ADAS, offering adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, road-departure mitigation and automatic high-beam. It becomes the second Maruti model after the Victoris to receive Level 2 ADAS. Maruti built the SUV using over 60% high-tensile and ultra-high-tensile steel, enhancing rigidity during impact. The battery pack has undergone extreme-temperature tests ranging from –30°C to 60°C, ensuring durability in diverse real-world conditions.

A Strong Start for Maruti’s EV Strategy

The e Vitara’s 5-star rating gives Maruti’s first electric SUV a strong start ahead of its launch. Bharat NCAP tested the top-spec Alpha variant with a 61 kWh battery, but the rating also applies to the Delta (49 kWh) and Zeta (61 kWh) trims. Maruti will sell the e Vitara in India and export it to over 100 markets, using it as a key part of its long-term global EV strategy. As competition intensifies, the e Vitara’s strong safety credentials add significant credibility and buyer confidence. The e Vitara’s test results highlight its safety-focused engineering and strong protection.
