Maruti Suzuki unveiled its first all-electric SUV in India, the e Vitara at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025 on January 17.
The e Vitara embodies a design philosophy termed “High-Tech & Adventure”. Its exterior is characterized by large-diameter tyres and a long wheelbase, while the interior features an integrated display. In terms of size, the e Vitara measures 4,275 mm in length, 1,800 mm in width, and 1,635 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,700 mm, 180 mm of ground clearance and 5.2 metres of turning radius. It will be more than 4 metres in length which should result in ample space inside the cabin and the boot.
These battery packs are paired with a single electric motor and a larger battery pack is expected to offer a driving range of up to 500 KM on a single charge, catering to the needs of long-distance travellers.
Built on Maruti’s new HEARTECT-e platform which is specially designed for the new EV lineup of Maruti Suzuki in India, the e Vitara incorporates features such as the ALLGRIP-e 4WD system, supposedly enhancing its off-road capabilities. Additionally, it is expected to come equipped with Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), including adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assist, elevating both safety and driving convenience. It will have ‘cockpit-inspired’ controls on the centre console.
The interior of the e Vitara is designed to provide a premium experience, featuring automatic climate control, wireless charging, and compatibility with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. There’s also provisions for six airbags which is of course mandatory now. A 10.25-inch infotainment display with a 360-degree camera and a dual-spoke steering wheel with a 10.1-inch instrument cluster for the driver is present as well, but, the problem may arise in the seating position because the batteries are mounted on the floor so the floor would be higher up due to which under-thigh support would be lacking. It would be offered with reclining rear seats.
Maruti Suzuki aims to position the e Vitara competitively within the Indian EV market, with an anticipated price range between ₹22 lakh and ₹25 lakh. This pricing strategy is designed to attract a broad spectrum of consumers seeking a reliable and feature-rich electric SUV. It will compete with the Tata Curvv EV, Hyundai Creta Electric, MG ZS EV and Mahindra BE 6.
Production of the e Vitara is slated to commence in spring 2025 at Suzuki Motor Gujarat’s facility in India, which will serve as the production hub for this model. Notably, 50% of the production is designated for export markets, including Europe and Japan, underscoring Maruti Suzuki’s commitment to expanding its global EV footprint.
The e Vitara was launched at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo on January 17, 2025, with the market launch expected by March 2025.
Maruti Suzuki’s introduction of the e Vitara marks a significant milestone in India’s automotive industry, reflecting the company’s commitment to sustainable mobility solutions. The competition will be tough, Maruti has to cope with the established car makers that have been making EVs in for a couple of years now.
