Maruti e Vitara To Launch In India On Dec 2: What To Expect?

1 min read

Maruti Suzuki will launch its much-anticipated e-Vitara in India on 2nd December 2025. The company will sell its first full-electric SUV for the Indian market through its Nexa premium retail channel. Maruti manufactures the vehicle at its Gujarat plant in Hansalpur, which also functions as the export hub for this model. Initial export figures show several thousand units have already left for European markets, underlining Maruti’s global ambitions. This local launch is a symbolic move, introducing Maruti’s first EV SUV in its home market as it aggressively pushes into the EV space.

Powertrain & Range

The e-Vitara gets two battery pack options, a 49 kWh unit and a 61 kWh unit, in international markets. In the front-wheel-drive (2WD) setup, the 49 kWh variant produces around 144 HP and delivers a WLTP-estimated range of about 344 KM. The larger 61 kWh pack raises power to 174 HP in the 2WD version, with a WLTP range of approximately 428 KM. Notably, there is also an all-wheel-drive (AWD) version planned, called “AllGrip-e”, which uses a second motor at the rear to deliver a combined 184 HP, though its WLTP range is slightly lower at 394 KM. For the Indian launch, Maruti will likely bring in the larger battery 61 kWh FWD version, which may deliver a 500 KM-plus range on the ARAI test cycle.

Design, Features, & Safety Highlights

The e Vitara blends EV design cues with an SUV-ish styling. Its dimensions measure around 4,275 MM in length, 1,800 MM in width, and 1,640 MM in height, with a wheelbase of 2,700 MM. The design includes aerodynamic elements such as a closed-off grille, tri-slashed LED DRLs at both front and rear, and C-pillar-mounted rear door handles. Inside, the cabin gets a floating dual-screen layout: a 10.25-inch touchscreen for infotainment and a 10.1-inch digital driver display. Feature-wise, one can expect ventilated front seats, a 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, and a Harman-sourced sound system in the higher variants. On safety, the e-Vitara will likely get seven airbags, all-disc brakes, electronic parking brake, tyre pressure monitoring, and Level 2 ADAS, including adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and automatic emergency braking.

Conclusion

While the e Vitara’s launch is a major step for Maruti Suzuki, there are a few challenges and strategic trade-offs to watch. Firstly, Maruti has reportedly cut its near-term production target for the e-Vitara due to a shortage of rare earth materials required for magnets used in EV motors. This could affect early supply, even after the launch. Secondly, although the price is not officially confirmed, some reports suggest a starting ex-showroom figure in the region of ₹18-22 lakh, which places it in a competitive bracket among mid-size electric SUVs.

Lastly, Maruti’s success with this EV will hinge on its broader EV ecosystem. The company plans to provide home-charging units, set up DC fast chargers at Nexa dealerships, and roll out more EV service centres in over 1,000 cities. Overall, the e-Vitara’s December 2 launch could mark a turning point for Maruti Suzuki’s EV ambitions in India.
