Maruti Suzuki has revealed that the higher-capacity 61kWh variants of the Maruti e Vitara are witnessing stronger customer demand in India. Among them, the top-spec Alpha trim has emerged as the most preferred option among buyers.

The Alpha variant is priced at Rs. 19.79 lakh (ex-showroom) and comes loaded with premium features such as dual digital displays, Level 2 ADAS, and a full LED lighting package. The increasing preference for the larger battery versions suggests that buyers are prioritising longer range and better equipment over lower entry pricing.

Production & Export Numbers

April turned out to be a strong month for the e Vitara. Maruti produced 2,006 units for the domestic market while another 4,900 units were allocated for exports.

India also serves as the global production hub for the e Vitara, with exports already crossing 30,000 units across 44 countries. The SUV currently sits at the top of Maruti’s export portfolio, highlighting its growing international demand.

Capacity Constraints Continue

Despite the rising interest, Maruti has admitted that production capacity remains limited. The automaker confirmed that output will stay capped at around 2,000 units per month until July 2026.

The limitation is linked to an ongoing expansion at the Gujarat manufacturing facility. Originally operated by Suzuki, the plant is now fully owned by Maruti Suzuki and functions as the global manufacturing hub for the e Vitara, Fronx, and Baleno.

The same facility also manufactures the Toyota Urban Cruiser e-Bella, although Toyota has not yet announced prices for the Indian market.

Why The 61kWh Variants Matter

The strong response to the 61kWh versions indicates a clear shift in buyer preferences within India’s EV market. Customers appear willing to spend more for a greater range, advanced safety technology, and premium features, especially in the fast-growing electric SUV segment.

With production set to increase later this year, Maruti is expected to shorten waiting periods and strengthen the e-Vitara’s position against rivals in the midsize electric SUV category.
