CNG AMT Powertrain & Mileage

All three models use Maruti’s 1.2-litre three-cylinder naturally aspirated Z12E engine. In CNG mode, it produces 70 HP and 102 NM. The Dzire CNG AMT is claimed to return 36.47 KM/KG, while the Baleno and Swift deliver claimed figures of 34.47 KM/KG and 35.34 KM/KG, respectively. These figures are higher than the corresponding CNG manual versions.

Suspension & CNG Equipment

The CNG AMT versions remain largely unchanged from their manual counterparts apart from the gearbox. Maruti has retuned the suspension to handle the additional weight of the CNG system. The cars also receive a fuel switch and a CNG fuel-level indicator. The AMT allows drivers to use a two-pedal setup while retaining the lower running-cost focus of the CNG powertrain.

Boot Space Remains Limited

Unlike the Victoris and Brezza, the Dzire, Baleno and Swift use a CNG tank mounted inside the boot. The spare wheel also occupies space in the same area. As a result, these models offer negligible usable boot space. Tata’s CNG models such as the Tiago, Tigor and Altroz use dual-cylinder tanks, which leave some additional luggage space.

Prices In India

The Maruti Swift CNG AMT starts at Rs 7.92 lakh, while the Baleno CNG AMT starts at Rs 8.32 lakh and the Dzire CNG AMT starts at Rs 8.53 lakh. The top CNG AMT variants cost Rs 8.86 lakh for the Swift, Rs 9.32 lakh for the Baleno and Rs 9.53 lakh for the Dzire. All prices are ex-showroom, India.

Verdict

The introduction of CNG AMT variants gives Maruti buyers an additional transmission option without moving away from the lower running costs associated with CNG. The three models use the same 1.2-litre Z12E engine and receive suspension changes to accommodate the CNG system. However, the boot-mounted tank significantly limits luggage space. The CNG AMT also carries a Rs 35,000–40,000 premium over the equivalent manual versions.
