New Three-Cylinder Petrol Engine

The facelift replaces the previous K12N 1.2-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with Maruti Suzuki’s Z12E 1.2-litre three-cylinder unit. This engine is also available in the Swift and Dzire.
It produces 83 HP and 112 NM, representing a reduction of 7 HP and 1 NM compared with the outgoing engine. However, fuel efficiency has improved, with the manual returning a claimed 23.80 KM/L and the AMT achieving 24.77 KM/L.
CNG Powertrain & Efficiency
The Z12E engine is also available with a factory-fitted CNG system. In this configuration, it produces 70 HP and 102 NM and comes exclusively with a 5-speed manual gearbox.
Furthermore, the CNG version delivers a claimed efficiency of 33.61 KM/KG. This represents an improvement of around 3 KM/KG over the previous model, making efficiency one of the key changes with the facelift.
Features & Updates
Alongside the mechanical changes, Maruti has introduced updates to the Baleno’s equipment list. Depending on the variant, the premium hatchback offers features aimed at improving convenience, safety and everyday usability.
Additionally, the facelift continues to target buyers looking for a spacious premium hatchback with multiple powertrain options.
Rivals In India
The updated Baleno continues to compete with the Tata Altroz, Hyundai i20 and Toyota Glanza. The Altroz is priced from Rs 6 lakh to Rs 10.75 lakh, while the Hyundai i20 ranges from Rs 6 lakh to Rs 10.39 lakh for the standard model.
Meanwhile, the i20 N Line costs between Rs 9.27 lakh and Rs 11.59 lakh. The Toyota Glanza, which is also expected to receive a facelift soon, is currently priced from Rs 6.73 lakh to Rs 9.99 lakh.
Prices In India
The 2026 Maruti Baleno is priced from Rs 5.99 lakh to Rs 9.99 lakh (ex-showroom). Therefore, the revised price range keeps the premium hatchback positioned against established rivals while adding the new three-cylinder petrol engine and updated powertrain options.
Verdict
The 2026 Baleno facelift brings a new three-cylinder petrol engine, revised efficiency figures and a broader variant-wise price structure. Although peak power has decreased slightly, Maruti claims improved fuel economy across the petrol range. Meanwhile, the CNG version offers the highest claimed efficiency at 33.61 KM/KG. With prices starting below Rs 6 lakh, the updated Baleno remains competitively positioned in the premium hatchback segment.
