Mahindra has launched the XEV 9S in India at a starting price of ₹19.95 lakh. It becomes the country’s first mass-market electric SUV with three rows of seats, targeting buyers who want space, range and features at a mid-range price point. The model sits between the BE 6 and XEV 9e, and joins Mahindra’s new Born Electric line. The company says the top variants offer features usually seen in cars in the range of ₹80 lakh. With multiple battery options, long equipment lists and a focus on practicality, the XEV 9S enters a segment that has seen no competition so far.
The variant-wise pricing of the XEV 9S is given below:
| Variants | Ex-Showroom Price | Range & Power Output |
|---|---|---|
| Pack One Above 59kWh | ₹19.95 lakh | 521 KM, 231 HP |
| Pack One Above 79kWh | ₹21.95 lakh | 679 KM, 286 HP |
| Pack Two Above 70kWh | ₹24.45 lakh | 600 KM, 245 HP |

Bold Exterior With SUV Proportions

The XEV 9S’s styling leans closer to the XEV 9e than to the more radical BE 6. At the front, it features a blanked-off grille that reinforces its EV identity, along with triangular LED headlamps and a connected DRL lightbar. A long bonnet and pronounced overhangs give the SUV a strong stance while creating extra space for passengers and luggage. With a wheelbase of 2,762MM and a height of 1,745MM, the XEV 9S occupies slightly more space than the 9e.

It rides on 20-inch alloys and offers 219MM of ground clearance. The rear continues the upright theme with smoked LED tail-lamps, a redesigned bumper, and a minimalistic tailgate. It gets a frunk which accommodates 150 litres of luggage and the boot expands to 527 litres with the third row folded. Like all INGLO-based vehicles, the SUV wears Mahindra’s new butterfly emblem.
Cabin Designed For Comfort & Tech

Inside, Mahindra emphasises tech and passenger comfort through a cabin dominated by screens. The dashboard integrates a triple-screen layout, digital instrument display, main infotainment unit, and a passenger-side screen, all 12.3-inch in size. Second-row passengers also receive individual screens mounted behind the front seats. Space and flexibility form a key part of the interior.

The SUV provides sliding and reclining second-row seats across variants and features a panoramic sunroof that opens (unlike the fixed glass roofs of the BE 6 and XEV 9e). Select trims get premium amenities such as a Harman Kardon 16-speaker audio system with Dolby Atmos, dual-zone climate control, leatherette upholstery, and multi-colour ambient lighting. Features like Boss Mode, a Bring-Your-Own-Device (BYOD) interface, powered sunshades, a Lounge Desk (in specific variants), and dual wireless charging add convenience.

Tech and safety support come through an extensive ADAS suite offering up to Level 2+ functions. This includes lane centring, blind-spot detection, automatic lane change, cross-traffic alerts, driver drowsiness monitoring, and AutoPark Assist. Seven airbags, including a driver knee airbag, along with a Secure 360 camera system with live view and recording complete the safety package.
Powertrain Options & Claimed Range

Mahindra offers the XEV 9S with three LFP battery choices – 59kWh, 70kWh, and 79kWh – paired with single rear-mounted motors. Output varies by pack: 231HP for 59kWh models, 245HP for the 70kWh version, and 286HP for the 79kWh variants. The more powerful setup achieves 0-100 KM/H in a claimed 7 seconds with the 79 kWh version, while the 59kWh version takes 7.7 seconds. All variants are rear-wheel-drive and reach a top speed of 202 KM/H.

Range figures are strong for the segment. The 59kWh model is ARAI-rated at up to 521KM, the 70kWh variant reaches 600KM, and the 79kWh versions extend this to 679KM. Mahindra cites a real-world driving range of around 500KM. Fast-charging capability ranges from 140kW to 180kW depending on variant, enabling a 20-80% top-up in about 20 minutes. Buyers can opt for 7.2kW or 11.2kW home chargers at an additional cost of ₹50,000 and ₹75,000 respectively.
Positioning & Market Outlook

With the XEV 9S, Mahindra moves into a space that currently has no direct rivals at this price. It is the first e-SUV in India to offer seven seats below the ₹25 lakh bracket. Higher variants, which cost above ₹25 lakh, bring features that often appear in premium models. Its closest rivals are the Kia Carens Clavis EV and the BYD eMax 7, though both are primarily MPVs. The pricing strategy signals Mahindra’s intent to expand electric mobility across wider buyer groups rather than niche segments.
