Mahindra has unveiled the Vision SXT concept during its annual Independence Day event, introducing a pickup-style derivative of the newly revealed Vision T. Both models preview future additions to the Thar family, with a production version of the Vision SXT expected to launch post-2027.
Pickup-Inspired Design, Modular Architecture
The Vision SXT features a pickup truck body style integrated into the C-segment SUV space, characterised by its short, open rear deck, roll bars, and a slim tailgate panel that creates a see-through effect. Differentiating itself from traditional pickups, the model blends the passenger and cargo compartments for a unified, proportionate profile.
The design shares sculpted wheel arches, off-road bumpers, and flat surfacing with the Vision T, but offers a distinct grille, glass-accented headlamps, and more aggressive off-road wheels wrapped in all-terrain tires. Accessories like strapped spare tires, exposed hinges, roof carrier hooks, bonnet latches, and C-pillar rear door handles underscore its outdoorsy, lifestyle-oriented aesthetic. The concept was designed by Mahindra Studios in Mumbai and the UK, and developed at Mahindra Research Valley.
Minimalistic Interior Focused On Tech
Interior details reveal a layout shared with Vision T, featuring hard-wearing materials, a free-standing digital instrument cluster, a large portrait infotainment touchscreen, and physical switchgear on the centre console. A new three-spoke steering wheel and a panoramic sunroof were highlighted. Software and connectivity remain central, with Mahindra’s NU_UX interface. The five-seat arrangement is consistent with Mahindra’s modern design direction.
Newer Platform, Versatile Powertrains
The Vision SXT is based on Mahindra’s new NU_IQ modular monocoque architecture, engineered for SUVs between 3990 MM and 4320 MM in length. With a wheelbase of 2665 MM, it may offer class-leading interior space and a claimed turning radius of 10.3 Meters. The platform supports multiple powertrain options, including petrol, diesel, hybrid, and electric, with EV variants expected to use LPF batteries also employed in models like the BE 6 and XEV 9e. Both front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive layouts are possible.
Off-Road Capability & Safety Aspirations
As an off-road-focused concept, the SXT achieves approach, departure, and break over angles of 28, 34.9, and 28.2 degrees, respectively, figures slated to surpass segment norms. It also offers segment-best ground clearance and features a penta-link rear suspension. Mahindra is targeting a 5-star rating from global safety agencies (GNCAP, Euro NCAP).
Future Directions

Unveiled alongside Vision T, the Vision SXT is part of a new generation of Mahindra concepts, also including Vision S and Vision X, all underpinned by the same flexible NU_IQ platform. These concepts preview future models for the Thar, Scorpio, and XUV families, with final versions anticipated from 2027 onwards and potential for global rollout. Details and features of the production models may be refined before market launch.
