Mahindra Thar, XUV700 Facelifts In Development

1 min read

Mahindra has been on a roll in the Indian market by delivering consistent blockbusters one after the other. The first products to start this revolution were the Thar and XUV700. However, significant time has passed since the time that these vehicles were launched, and now it makes it the perfect time for Mahindra to refresh these vehicles and give them a new lease of life.

Thar Facelift Details

Mahindra launched the 5-door Thar Roxx very recently, and it was rumoured back then that the Thar 3-door would get a facelift, which would be similar to that of the Thar Roxx. The feature list of the upcoming model will be identical to that seen on the Thar Roxx, so customers can expect features like a bigger touchscreen, a digital instrument cluster, and maybe even a sunroof. On the exterior front, styling will be revamped and will be made to look more in line with the Thar Roxx. The front styling could undergo a restyling exercise, and so will the rear portion of the Thar. Alloy wheels are also expected to be updated. Engine options will most likely be retained. As of today, the Thar is offered with 2 diesel options and 1 petrol option. There is a 1.5-litre diesel engine producing 117 BHP and 300 NM of torque, and this is mated only to a 6-speed manual gearbox. The other engine option is a 2.2-litre diesel engine producing 130 BHP and 300 NM of torque. This comes mated to a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox. The petrol engine being offered on the Thar is a 2-litre turbo petrol motor that produces 150 BHP. Torque outputs stand at 300 NM for the manual transmission and 320 NM for the automatic transmission.

XUV 700 Facelift Details

The XUV700 is expected to have a design which would be more in line with the new EVs, i.e., the BE 6 and the XEV 9e. The two EVs have received widespread appreciation for their design and features. The exterior could be thoroughly refreshed, with elements such as a new grill, new lights, and an updated design for the bumper. The side profile could also be updated with new alloy wheels and different wheel arches. Interiors are also expected to be tweaked. Powertrain options will continue to be the same as before. The XUV700 currently comes with 2 engine options, namely a 2.0L turbo-petrol engine that produces 197 BHP and 380 Nm of torque, and a 2.2L diesel engine that produces either 153 BHP/ 360 Nm or 182 BHP/ 420 Nm of torque, depending on the variant chosen. The petrol and diesel engines have a choice of either a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed automatic gearbox.

Launch Timeline

As of now, there is no concrete information about the launch timelines of these vehicles. The two models are currently under development, and are rumoured to hit the market in the year 2026.
