Mahindra has revisions for the Mahindra Thar Variants list and narrowed down the list of the Thar lineup from 19 to 11, discontinuing eight variants of the Thar, which includes all the convertible top models. This might be due to the evolving market, with consumers mainly going for the hardtop variants.
Which Variants Have Been Discontinued?
The list of the discontinued variants includes AX(O) and LX trims featuring the convertible soft-top, as well as the AX(O) 4WD and LX versions equipped with open differentials. These revisions are across both the fuel options, i.e., petrol and diesel. Now, this move from Mahindra eliminates their position as one of India’s most affordable cars equipped with a convertible roof.
Changes In The Pricing Structure
Independent of the changes in the lineup, the pricing structure stays unchanged, as the base AX(O) RWD Hard Top 1.5L diesel MT will continue to be priced at ₹11.5 Lakhs (ex-showroom), while the top-tier LX Earth edition 4WD hardtop 2.2L Diesel AT is available at ₹17.6 Lakhs (ex-showroom).
Thar 3-Door Facelift Upcoming
There are also some expectations that Mahindra will launch a facelifted version of the Thar by 2026. Possible upgrades include a redesigned front grille, new LED headlights with daytime running lights, larger wheels, and interior changes like better interior material quality, an expanded infotainment screen, and automatic climate control. There will be a potential refinement level upgrade on the existing engines. The facelift is expected to will somewhat close to the Thar Roxx Design. The Thar Roxx has marked a shift toward more practical and comfortable preferences, leading to revisions in the Thar lineup. The upcoming facelifted Thar will try to blend the Thar’s iconic off-road capabilities with contemporary comforts, catering to a broader audience seeking versatility in both urban and adventurous settings.
