Mahindra & Mahindra’s latest performance underscores its market standing as it closed 2025 with significant gains, led by strong demand for utility vehicles. The Mahindra sales surge in December 2025 reflects both consumer preference for SUVs and broader industry momentum supported by recent tax cuts on larger utility vehicles.

According to the company’s filings and industry reports, Mahindra sold 86,090 total vehicles in December 2025, marking a 25 per cent year-on-year increase over December 2024.

Suv Sales Drive Growth

The sales surge was powered chiefly by SUV performance. In December, domestic SUV sales reached 50,946 units, a 23 per cent increase compared with the same period a year earlier. Domestic SUV demand remains the backbone of Mahindra’s passenger vehicle portfolio, with models such as the Scorpio-N, XUV700, Thar and XUV 3XO contributing to the uplift.

Mahindra’s utility vehicles have continued to benefit from sustained popularity among Indian buyers. The SUV segment accounted for the entirety of the company’s passenger vehicle sales in December 2025, highlighting Mahindra’s deep positioning in this category.

Commercial & Three-Wheeler Sales Expand

The sales surge extended beyond SUVs as well. The company’s commercial vehicle business, especially light commercial vehicles (LCVs) under 3.5 tonnes, reported strong growth, with 24,786 units sold, up 34 per cent year-on-year for the month.

In three-wheelers, including electric models, Mahindra recorded 7,538 units sold, a 31 per cent increase compared with December 2024, highlighting demand in last-mile and urban mobility segments.

Year-to-Date Momentum & Broader Sales Conditions

This also reflects larger year-end patterns in India’s auto market. Passenger vehicle wholesalers across India recorded record annual sales of approximately 4.5 million units in 2025.

In passenger vehicle wholesales, SUVs continued to dominate demand, accounting for more than 55 per cent of total sales nationwide in 2025. In this context, Mahindra’s focus on a strong utility vehicle range has aligned well with evolving consumer preferences.

Strategic Implications & Segment Positioning

The sales surge also underlines the company’s competitive positioning in the Indian market. In the broader industry landscape, Mahindra surpassed legacy rivals such as Tata Motors and Hyundai Motor India in total passenger-vehicle volumes for the 2025 calendar year, emerging as the second-largest automaker in India on a year-to-date basis.

Outlook As 2026 Begins

As Mahindra enters 2026 with strong end-of-year performance, the sales surge in December 2025 sets a positive foundation for the year ahead. With demand for SUVs, light commercial vehicles and three-wheelers remaining resilient and the company poised to introduce refreshed products such as the Mahindra XUV 7XO, Mahindra’s diversified portfolio is positioned to maintain momentum through the early part of the new calendar year.
