Mahindra has updated its electric vehicle (EV) charging policy for the BE 6 and XEV 9e models based on customer feedback. It allows for more flexibility & choice for buyers of these models.
What’s Changed?
Previously, Mahindra required customers to purchase a bundled charger with their new EV, either a 7.2 kW AC charger for Rs. 50,000 or an 11.2 kWh AC charger for Rs. 75,000. For customers who already had a charger, this was unnecessary and added to the price of the car. After receiving backlash, Mahindra has walked back on this policy & revised it, allowing buyers to opt out. This is a welcome step by giving consumers greater flexibility. It minimises waste and brings down the cost of these vehicles while also giving users the option to purchase chargers externally.
Mahindra’s Electric Future
Mahindra is set to broaden its existing electric vehicle portfolio in 2025. They already made a big splash with the launch of the BE 6 and XEV 9e electric vehicles, featuring BYD’s battery technology and powerful performance with Volkswagen’s motors. They offer the best performance in their segments. Upcoming EVs to keep an eye on include the XUV 3X0 EV. It’s expected to offer two battery pack options — 34.5 kWh and 39.4 kWh — carrying them forward from the XUV 400.
Key Rivals & Competitors
Compared to the Tata Curvv EV, the Mahindra BE 6 offers larger battery options (59 kWh and 79 kWh), and much better performance. The Curvv EV is more affordable, though. The MG ZS EV is another competitor, featuring a 50.3 kWh battery and a price range similar to the Mahindra BE 6 but also loses out on performance. The XEV 9e competes with the BYD Atto 3, offering similar range & performance.
