Mahindra has expanded its Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) programme to the XEV 9e & XEV 9S in India. The new ownership plan significantly lowers their upfront prices by separating the battery cost from the vehicle price. Mahindra has also extended BaaS availability to all variants of the BE 6 Sporteq. With this update, all of Mahindra’s born-electric SUVs are now available with the BaaS ownership option.
Mahindra XEV 9S Gets Lower Entry Price With BaaS
Under the BaaS programme, the Mahindra XEV 9S starts at Rs 12.65 lakh, ex-showroom. This is Rs 8 lakh lower than its regular starting price of Rs 20.65 lakh.
However, buyers pay a separate battery usage cost under the programme. Mahindra quotes an effective cost of Rs 3.75 per KM based on a starting battery EMI of Rs 6,975 & an average daily running of 60 KM.
Mahindra XEV 9e BaaS Price Drops By Rs 8 Lakh
The Mahindra XEV 9e also receives the BaaS option, with prices starting at Rs 13.90 lakh, ex-showroom. Without BaaS, the electric SUV starts at Rs 21.90 lakh, excluding the charger.
This brings an Rs 8 lakh reduction in the initial vehicle price. Buyers then finance the battery separately and pay the applicable usage cost based on their agreement with the financier.
BaaS Extended To All BE 6 Sporteq Variants
Mahindra has also expanded BaaS availability for the BE 6 Sporteq. Earlier, the programme was limited to the Pack One & Pack Two variants equipped with the smaller 59kWh battery.
The company has now extended BaaS to all variants of the BE 6 Sporteq. However, Mahindra has not yet announced the detailed variant-wise BaaS pricing for the XEV 9e, XEV 9S & BE 6 Sporteq.
How Mahindra BaaS Works
Battery-as-a-Service removes the battery pack cost from the initial EV purchase price. As a result, customers pay a lower upfront amount for the vehicle. The battery cost is then financed separately through a fixed agreement. The customer pays for battery usage based on the agreed cost per KM, tenure & interest rate.
However, the BaaS payment does not include electricity or charging expenses. Therefore, buyers must account for charging costs separately when calculating their overall EV running expenses.

Mahindra Expands Its EV Ownership Strategy
Mahindra joins a growing list of manufacturers offering battery financing in India. The BaaS model aims to make electric vehicles more accessible by reducing their initial purchase price. However, the overall ownership cost depends on factors such as monthly usage, financing tenure, interest rate & charging expenses. Therefore, buyers should compare the total cost of ownership before choosing BaaS over a conventional EV purchase.
With the XEV 9e, XEV 9S & BE 6 Sporteq now covered, Mahindra has significantly expanded its BaaS offering across its electric SUV range.
