Mahindra India Unveils The Thar Roxx – The 5-seater Thar

The Mahindra Thar has been an instant success since its launch in 2010. The first edition was a rugged SUV with few features designed primarily for tough terrains. However, the latest version matches the brawn of the Thar with modern-day amenities.

How Is It Different From The 3-seater Version

The biggest drawback of Thar used to be that it was only available as a 3-door. This severely affected practicality and caused slightly cramped rear space and a small boot. Mahindra seems to have solved this issue with the Roxx, a 5-door version of the Thar. Mahindra unveiled the Roxx recently after being frequently spotted during its testing phase.

The powertrain is carried over from the 3-door version. A 2.0L petrol and a 2.2L diesel mated to either a manual or automatic gearbox. Expectedly, it comes with a 4WD option along with RWD. For easy differentiation of the Roxx from the 3-door version, Mahindra India has tweaked the grill and headlight design. Dual-tone alloys The overall design language continues to be boxy.

Major updates can be seen when you step inside the cabin. The interior hasn’t been revealed officially, but we get an idea from the spied pictures and rumours. Higher variants could come with a panoramic sunroof and a larger infotainment screen, while you get other necessary features like ADAS, ventilated seats etc.

Launch Date And Pricing

Mahindra has already revealed the launch date of the 5-door version, which is 15th August. Mahindra decided to give the public an idea of how the 5-door version would look and also revealed the name of the 5-door version in a short video. The pricing can start from 12 lakh rupees and the top variants could exceed the 25-lakh mark.

The main competition for the Thar Roxx is Force Gurkha, but it can sit well against SUV rivals like the Hyundai Creta, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, VW Taigun and Skoda Kushaq. The 3-door version sold in heavy numbers upon its launch and the waiting periods could touch 10 months. If they improve the build quality and keep the prices attractive, the demand for the Thar Roxx will increase
