Mahindra has recorded its best-ever monthly performance in September 2025, recording 56,233 units in domestic passenger vehicle sales. The BE 6 and XEV 9e have contributed in good numbers too, setting new benchmarks across sales, production, and exports. Together, the two electric SUVs contributed significantly to Mahindra’s overall volumes, which closed at 1,00,298 units in total passenger vehicle sales (including exports) during the month. Combined retail figures for the BE 6 and XEV 9e reached 4,320 units in September, marking their highest monthly total since launch. Mahindra’s Born Electric portfolio also recorded 20,000 cumulative sales in five months, since deliveries began on March 20. Mahindra claims that the two models have collectively covered 9.3 crore KMs in five months. The BE 6 and XEV 9e have particularly helped the company strengthen its premium EV presence, supported by Mahindra’s dedicated electric plant in Chakan, which is ramping up production to meet both local and export requirements.

Strong Demand Driven By Design & Efficiency
The surge in sales of the two can be due to their market positioning as high-tech electric SUVs. The BE 6, designed as a midsize crossover, has been well received for its blend of spacious interiors and futuristic styling. Meanwhile, the XEV 9e caters to buyers seeking a larger EV with more space. Mahindra claims that both models are achieving real-world ranges of around 500 KM, supported by fast-charging capabilities. Mahindra has also seen growing interest from tech-focused buyers, thanks to equipment such as ADAS Level 2, connected car support, and other features. These factors have not only helped the BE 6 and XEV 9e gain momentum in domestic sales but have also strengthened Mahindra’s EV export strategy. The strong response indicates a widening acceptance of electric mobility across segments that were predominant by internal combustion SUVs.

Production & Export Figures Reflect Rapid Expansion
In September 2025, Mahindra’s Born Electric division reported its highest monthly production, with 5,959 combined units manufactured. Out of these, 210 units were exported, a record for Mahindra’s EV exports in a single month. The company’s new Chakan, Pune EV manufacturing line has played a crucial role in achieving this milestone. Production is likely to scale further in the upcoming months as part of the company’s plan to achieve 1,80,000 electric vehicles production by FY2026. The BE 6 and XEV 9e together accounted for nearly 10 percent of Mahindra’s total production in September. This reflects the increasing weight of EVs in the company’s portfolio. Maintaining this trajectory will be key as rivals offer competing products such as Tata’s Harrier.ev and Hyundai’s Creta Electric.

EV Momentum Likely To Continue Into Festive Season
With festive season underway, Mahindra will look forward to maintain its strong performance in the EV segment. The BE 6 and XEV 9e are already witnessing higher bookings ahead of Diwali. Few dealerships report waiting periods of up to two months for select variants. The company’s focus on expanding charging infrastructure, along with government support and schemes for EV buyers will support further growth. India’s overall electric car market grew by nearly 148 percent year-on-year in September 2025. 15,315 units were sold this month compared to the 6,176 units sold in September 2024. Mahindra’s contribution through its BE platform was significant among domestic manufacturers. As more customers shift towards sustainable mobility, the BE 6 and XEV 9e’s record-breaking month signals Mahindra’s positive entry into the electric SUV segment. It also signals how Indian automakers are beginning to compete globally in the transition to cleaner transportation.
