The MG Astor represents MG's second attempt at the premium crossover market, this time with a petrol-powered version of the ZS EV. It aims to build on MG's initial success in India with models like the Hector and ZS EV. The Astor features two petrol engine options and boasts segment-first features like a personal AI assistant and Level 2 ADAS. It does not have diesel or hybrid powertrains unlike the segment leaders which puts it at a disadvantage.

NCAP Rating:
While the Indian-spec MG Astor hasn’t been crash-tested yet, the Thai-spec MG ZS Petrol received a 5-star rating from ASEAN NCAP. Given the similarities, a similar rating is expected for the Astor, making it a strong selling point compared to competitors such as the Hyundai Creta & Kia Seltos with lower safety ratings.
Our Verdict:
The MG Astor offers a compelling package with its striking design, well-appointed interiors, and a host of advanced features. While its design might not blow your mind, it has solid build quality, a comfortable cabin, and tech-laden features making it an attractive option in the premium crossover segment. Some surprising omissions and the lack of diesel/hybrid options could negatively affect sales.
Reasons To Buy:
Tech-laden: Boasts segment-first features like personal AI assistant and Level 2 ADAS tech.
Premium Interiors: Unique dual-tone interiors with soft-touch materials.
Solid Build Quality: Doors and panels feel well-built and robust.
Good Safety Rating: Based on the ASEAN NCAP rating of the ZS Petrol.
Reasons Not To Buy:
Limited to only one naturally aspirated petrol engine.
Surprising omissions like ventilated seats and auto-dimming IRVM.
Based on a 4-year old design that may not appeal to everyone.
Poor after-sales service network.
