Land Rover Defender remained the best-selling model for Jaguar Land Rover India during FY26. The British luxury carmaker sold a total of 6,031 vehicles between April 2025 and March 2026. However, overall sales declined slightly by 2 percent compared to FY25.
Despite the small decline in retail volumes, JLR India managed to post a strong 14 percent year-on-year revenue growth during the same fiscal year. The company stated that difficult market conditions and a cyber incident affected overall sales performance during FY26.
Defender Remains JLR India’s Strongest Seller

The Defender continued its strong performance in the Indian luxury SUV segment during FY26. Although the SUV arrives in India as a completely built unit, it still emerged as the brand’s highest-selling model for the second consecutive fiscal year.
JLR also revealed that more than 80 percent of its total India sales came from three models alone. These included the Defender, Range Rover and Range Rover Sport. This highlights the growing demand for premium luxury SUVs in the Indian market.
JLR Revenue Grows Despite Sales Decline
Even though total retail sales dipped by 2 percent, Jaguar Land Rover India recorded a healthy 14 percent growth in revenue during FY26. The company credited strong demand for high-end luxury SUVs and a better product mix for the improved revenue figures.
According to JLR’s official statement, the company faced multiple challenges during the fiscal year. These included a difficult automotive market environment and operational disruptions caused by a cyber incident. Despite that, the brand maintained stable performance in the luxury segment.
Q4 FY26 Sales Witness A Drop
Jaguar Land Rover India also reported weaker sales during the final quarter of FY26. Between January and March 2026, the luxury carmaker sold 1,651 vehicles in India. This represented an 8 percent year-on-year decline compared to the same quarter last year.
The company has not revealed model-wise quarterly sales numbers. However, strong customer interest in flagship SUVs like the Defender and Range Rover range helped JLR maintain a significant presence in the premium luxury SUV market.
Defender Continues To Strengthen Brand Presence
The Defender has become one of JLR India’s most important products in recent years. Its rugged design, luxury-focused cabin, and strong off-road capability have helped it attract buyers looking for both premium comfort and adventure-oriented performance.
The SUV’s continued success also reflects the rising popularity of luxury off-roaders in India. With buyers increasingly preferring high-end SUVs over traditional sedans, the Defender has strengthened JLR’s overall brand image and showroom footfall across the country.
Conclusion

The Defender once again played a major role in Jaguar Land Rover India’s performance during FY26. Even with a slight decline in overall sales, the brand achieved solid revenue growth thanks to strong demand for its premium SUV lineup.
With the Defender, Range Rover, and Range Rover Sport contributing over 80 percent of total sales, JLR India continues to rely heavily on its luxury SUV portfolio. The company will now aim to improve sales momentum further in FY27 while expanding its presence in the growing premium SUV segment.
