Lamborghini had revealed the mid-life cycle update of its SUV in April this year. It is now called the ‘Urus SE’ and has received a host of updates that include changes to the exterior, interior, and mainly to the powertrain and mechanical underpinnings.
In conjunction with the update for all its range of vehicles, the Urus also now gets hybrid power. The transition to hybrids that started with its flagship model, the V12 powered Revuelto, is now being carried over to the Urus and will be followed up later by the Huracan’s successor.
The Urus SE gets its power from the same but now slightly updated 4L twin turbo V8 petrol engine that is mated to an electric motor paired with a 25.9 kWh battery pack. The engine develops 620 HP and 800 N-m of torque on its own while the electric motor generates 189 HP and 483 N-m. The latter can allow the car to run in electric only mode till speeds of 130 km/h and has a claimed range of up to 60km. The combined output is rated at 800 HP and 950 N-m with the power being sent to the wheels via an eight speed torque convertor automatic gearbox.
As for the other mechanical components, the Urus now boasts a new electronic rear differential, recalibrated driving modes, an electronic torque vectoring system, 15% more aerodynamic efficiency, 35% higher downforce, an air ride suspension setup that now comes as part of standard fitment and also an all wheel drive (AWD) system. The claimed 0 to 100 km/h time is of 3.4 seconds and a top speed of up to 312 km/h.
At the desgin front, it now features a set of matrix LED headlights with integrated DRLs that are ‘inspired from the tail of a raging bull’, a bonnet that now extends to the nose of the car, a new spoiler, ‘Y’ shaped taillights similar to as seen on the Revuelto, that bring it in line with the brands’ new design philosophy and a new faux rear diffuser, with its design inspired by the Huracan.
The interior now comes equipped with as many as 10 different driving modes, a new larger 12.3 inch touchscreen infotainment system that offers the latest interface replaces the 10.1 inch unit that came equipped on the pre-facelift models and is shared with the Revuelto. It also has a 12.3-inch digital driver’s display and a set of new AC vents. And as always is the case, there will be an endless range of customisation available via the brand’s Ad Personam division.
The Urus was launched in India with a price tag of ₹3 crore back in 2018, later with the Performante at ₹4.22 crore and the S at ₹4.18 crore. The SE will definitely be more expensive considering that now it has been implemented with hybrid power.
It will rival other ultra luxury and performance SUVs like the Audi RSQ8, Bentley Bentayga, Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT, Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600, Mercedes-AMG G63, BMW XM, Lotus Eletre R, Aston Martin DBX 707, Rolls-Royce Cullinan and Ferrari Purosangue. Notably, the Urus shares its cycle parts, powertrain, mechanical underpinnigs and platform with the Cayenne Turbo GT, RSQ8 and Bentayga.
