Kia has unveiled the Syros Flex Fuel Vehicle (FFV) concept in India. It is the carmaker’s first flex-fuel vehicle and can run on petrol, ethanol or varying blends of the two fuels. Kia has not confirmed whether the concept will enter production or when a production-spec version could be launched.

Kia Syros Flex-Fuel Powertrain

The Syros flex-fuel concept uses a 1.0-litre three-cylinder direct-injection turbo-petrol engine. Kia has not revealed the engine’s power or torque output yet.
To support different ethanol-petrol blends, Kia has made changes to the engine management and fuel systems. The updates include a revised ECU, TCU and fuel system. These changes allow the powertrain to operate with different ethanol concentrations.

Kia Syros Gets 6-Speed Automatic Gearbox

The Syros flex-fuel concept uses a 6-speed torque-converter automatic transmission. This differs from the standard Syros turbo-petrol, which is paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
Kia has not disclosed whether the production version will retain the same transmission or whether further changes will be made to the powertrain before a potential launch.

A flex-fuel vehicle is designed to operate on petrol, ethanol or different blends of the two fuels. This allows the vehicle to use fuels with higher ethanol content without requiring a separate petrol-only powertrain.
Kia’s Syros flex-fuel concept comes as India moves towards higher ethanol blending in petrol. The government notified new standards for higher ethanol blends in May 2026. In June, regulations covering E100 fuel for vehicles were also approved.

Kia Syros Flex-Fuel Launch Timeline

Kia has not announced a launch date for the production version of the Syros flex-fuel. The vehicle currently remains a concept, and further details about its powertrain, specifications and production status are yet to be confirmed.
The Syros flex-fuel is part of Kia India’s wider work on alternative powertrains as the company prepares to expand its electrified and alternative-fuel vehicle portfolio in the country.
