The Kia Seltos finally getting a 5-star safety rating, but it also needs context. Because if you rewind a few years, the same car didn’t exactly set the benchmark. Back in 2020, the India-spec Seltos managed just 3 stars for adult protection and 2 for child safety, with concerns around structural integrity and protection levels.

That’s what makes this update more interesting than it looks. This isn’t just an incremental improvement, it’s a correction.

Under Bharat NCAP, the newer Seltos has now scored a full 5 stars, with 31.7/32 for adult protection and 45/49 for child safety, which puts it right at the top among ICE SUVs tested so far. On paper, that’s a massive jump. But numbers alone don’t tell the full story.

What’s changed is the approach. Earlier, the Seltos was built like most feature-heavy Korean SUVs, strong on tech, slightly less convincing on structure. This time, Kia seems to have gone back and reinforced the fundamentals. A stronger body shell, better crash energy management, and more consistent safety equipment across variants have made a visible difference.

At the same time, the feature list hasn’t gone anywhere. You still get:

  • Six airbags as standard
  • ESC, traction control
  • A full Level 2 ADAS suite with functions like autonomous braking and lane assist

Which means the Seltos hasn’t shifted away from being a “feature-first” SUV, it’s just no longer ignoring the basics underneath. Because earlier, buyers were choosing the Seltos despite its safety rating. Now, they don’t have to justify it anymore.
