Kia India has introduced a Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) scheme for the Carens Clavis EV, joining several manufacturers now offering flexible EV ownership models in India. Under this plan, customers can purchase the vehicle separately from the battery pack and pay a battery rental fee based on usage. Kia has fixed the rental charge at Rs 3.3 per KM for both available battery options. However, the ex-showroom prices of the Carens Clavis EV remain unchanged despite the introduction of the new ownership scheme.

How Kia’s BaaS Scheme Works

Under the BaaS program, Kia creates separate loan accounts for the vehicle chassis and battery pack. The chassis loan functions like a regular vehicle finance plan, while customers pay battery rental charges separately according to usage.

Kia allows the chassis loan tenure to extend up to 60 months, while the battery rental agreement can continue for up to 96 months. As a result, buyers can reduce the vehicle’s upfront acquisition cost while spreading battery-related expenses over a significantly longer ownership period.

Lower Initial Prices With Battery Excluded

With the battery pack excluded from the upfront purchase price, the Carens Clavis EV becomes considerably more accessible for buyers seeking lower initial ownership costs. The 42kWh version now starts from Rs 12.84 lakh under the BaaS structure, excluding rental charges.

Meanwhile, the larger 51.4kWh battery version starts from Rs 15.94 lakh under the same scheme. However, buyers must continue paying the Rs 3.3 per KM battery rental fee throughout the selected agreement period depending on vehicle usage patterns and ownership duration.

Standard Prices Remain Unchanged

Kia has not revised the standard ex-showroom pricing of the Carens Clavis EV alongside the BaaS launch. Without the rental scheme, the 42kWh variants continue ranging from Rs 17.99 lakh to Rs 20.49 lakh, ex-showroom.

Meanwhile, the larger 51.4kWh versions remain priced between Rs 21.99 lakh and Rs 24.99 lakh. Therefore, the new ownership model primarily targets customers seeking lower initial purchase costs rather than changes to the standard ownership structure currently offered through Kia dealerships across India.

Battery Options & Claimed Range Details

The Carens Clavis EV continues offering two battery pack options in the Indian market. The smaller 42kWh version delivers a claimed driving range of 404KM on a full charge under standard testing conditions.

Meanwhile, the larger 51.4kWh battery pack offers a claimed range of 490KM. Apart from the newly introduced BaaS scheme, Kia has not implemented any mechanical or feature-related changes to the electric MPV following the MY2026 update introduced earlier this year.

Prices In India

The Kia Carens Clavis EV currently starts at Rs 17.99 lakh for the standard 42kWh version without the BaaS plan. Meanwhile, the larger 51.4kWh variants begin at Rs 21.99 lakh, ex-showroom.

Under the Battery-as-a-Service structure, the 42kWh version starts from Rs 12.84 lakh, while the 51.4kWh version starts from Rs 15.94 lakh. However, both versions require an additional battery rental payment of Rs 3.3 per KM throughout the agreement tenure.

Conclusion

Kia’s Battery-as-a-Service scheme introduces another flexible ownership option for EV buyers in India. By separating the battery cost from the vehicle purchase price, the company aims to reduce upfront acquisition expenses for customers considering electric mobility.

At the same time, the Carens Clavis EV continues offering two battery options and competitive claimed range figures within the electric MPV segment. As more manufacturers adopt similar ownership structures, battery subscription models may gradually become more common across India’s growing EV market.
