The Korean automaker’s next worldwide entry-level vehicle, which is scheduled to go on sale in 2026, is based on the EV2 concept, which Kia has presented. Kia’s smallest electric vehicle to date will be the EV2.
The EV2 concept features a refined version of Kia’s “Opposites United” design language, with thick plastic cladding on the bumper and rakish claw-like twin headlamp units on the front end of the small SUV. The EV2 idea, on the other hand, has pillarless design, alloy wheels with quirky square spokes, and no door handles. The EV2 concept’s rear has a roof spoiler and low-set taillights that resemble the Syros in certain ways.
In order to increase legroom, the EV2 concept has folding bench-style seats in the second row that can be moved back, and bench seating for the front passengers. According to Kia, there is sufficient room for passengers to sit on the flat floor of the EV2 concept in this arrangement.
The EV2 concept dashboard has animations from LEDs.
Only the configuration of the infotainment and instrument screens is present on the burgundy-finished dashboard. Remarkably, the triangle speakers in the doors are detachable and moveable, and the dashboard and windows have distinctive LED animations. A panoramic sunroof, compatibility for over-the-air upgrades, and V2L (vehicle-to-load), which enables the EV2 concept to power external devices, are further noteworthy features.
The entry-level 400V version of Hyundai’s E-GMP architecture, which also serves as the foundation for the bigger Kia EV3 and EV4, is probably going to be used by the EV2, however technical specifics are yet unknown. As a result, the EV2 is anticipated to come with a single front-mounted motor that produces 201 horsepower and an option of 58.3kWh or 81.4kWh battery packs. The EV3’s smaller battery pack has a range of up to 434 km, while the bigger one can travel up to 603 km between charges. As an alternative, the PV5 electric van’s 43.3kWh LFP battery pack may be used in the EV2.
The Picanto hatchback offered in foreign countries will be replaced by the EV2 when it makes its global debut the following year. Although the EV2’s India debut has not been announced, it may arrive here given that Kia registered eight EV names here in 2023.
