The Kia Carens was launched 3 years ago in February 2022. The car has crossed the 2 lac sales milestone this year. As per the latest wholesale data released by SIAM, the Carens has sold 199,952 units as of January 2025, just 48 units shy of 200,000 which would have been achieved in the first few days of this month. The Carens becomes the 3rd product to achieve this feat in Kia’s lineup, after the Seltos Midsize SUV(527,021 units) and the Sonet compact SUV(397,563 units). The Carens has achieved this milestone within a few days less than the completion of 36 months. While the first 100,000 units took 16 months, the next 100,000 units took 14 months to move off the showroom floors. The Carens took noticeably lesser time to achieve 100,000 sales in the 2nd round as a new diesel manual powertrain was introduced.

On the export front, Kia has shipped 23,273 units of the Carens to global markets. This is a remarkable feat, considering the poor show of the Carens at Global NCAP crash tests. Customers have shown a liking towards the Carens because of its versatile nature and vast feature set. The Carens has comfortable interiors, making it a good choice for big families who want to venture over long distances.

The Carens is offered with a wide variety of engine and transmission options, making sure that there is something for every customer. The Carens comes with a 1.5-litre diesel engine mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox, a 1.5 litre naturally aspirated petrol engine and the other engine option being a 1.5-litre turbo petrol which comes mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. The diesel manual has also striken a chord with the fleet operators due to its efficient nature and spacious interiors.

The car comes loaded with features such as connected car tech, 6 airbags as standard on all variants, a sunroof, roof-mounted AC vents, and a comfortable 3rd row which has become a rarity these days in the segment as other competitor vehicles offer a 3rd row which is generally only for namesake with poor usability.

To continue this momentum, Kia is coming up with a facelift of the Carens. The facelift Carens is rumoured to coexist with the older model to create a lower entry point to the Carens. This strategy is often seen with Maruti vehicles, where the older generation is sold alongside the new-gen vehicle to cater to fleet operators. The new Carens is expected to come with more features and is also rumoured to come with an all-electric version. Test mules have been spotted on numerous occasions, and production is slated to commence from May 2025.
