Kia India has introduced a CNG option for the Carens, priced at ₹11.77 lakh (ex-showroom). This makes it the first Kia vehicle to come with CNG in India. The Carens CNG targets buyers seeking a balance between space, comfort, and low running costs. It is available in the solitary Premium (O) trim of the regular Carens. Interestingly, the CNG setup is not factory-fitted but installed at the dealer level for an additional ₹77,900. The CNG kit is available with the 1.5-litre NA petrol engine that produces 115 HP and 144 NM of torque on petrol mode, though these figures may reduce on CNG. It comes paired with a six-speed manual gearbox, offering a similar driving experience to its standard petrol version but with improved fuel efficiency.

Dealer-Level Fitment & Warranty Support
Unlike many manufacturers that offer CNG variants directly from the factory, Kia has opted for a dealer-installed system, supplied by a certified CNG vendor named Lovato. This is in contrast to its sister-brand Hyundai, which uses a twin-cylinder CNG technology. The kit will be placed in the Carens’ boot, thus affecting luggage volume significantly. Kia has also announced that the CNG conversion does not void the vehicle warranty, with coverage of up to 3-years / 1 lakh KM being applicable as standard. Moreover, since the CNG kit is a dealer-level fitment, it retails all features of the Premium (O) trim. It continues to offer six airbags, 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, rear AC vents for both second and third row, and a reverse camera. This keeps pricing accessible for cost-conscious family buyers.

Positioning & Market Outlook
With this launch, Kia joins a growing list of automakers expanding CNG availability beyond compact cars into larger family vehicles. While it may not match the Ertiga in terms of overall efficiency, the Carens offers a roomier cabin and a more premium interior feel, making it an attractive alternative for buyers and fleet operators. The move also strengthens Kia’s portfolio amid rising fuel prices and an increased demand for affordable alternatives to diesel. As the CNG network continues to grow across major Indian cities, the Carens CNG could help the brand tap into an expanding market segment that prioritizes practicality and low operating costs.
