JSW Motors will name its debut SUV the Combat, with the model expected to launch in India during the upcoming festive season. The 5-seater SUV will be based on the Chery Jetour T2 and will use a plug-in hybrid powertrain.

JSW Motors is also expected to position the Combat aggressively in the Rs 30 lakh-50 lakh ex-showroom bracket. As a result, it could become one of the few plug-in hybrid SUVs available in this price range.

JSW Combat Price & Rivals

JSW Motors is considering a price between Rs 30 lakh and Rs 50 lakh, although the company has not announced the final figure. At this price, the Combat could compete with the strong-hybrid Honda ZR-V.

However, its rugged design and larger SUV proportions could also attract buyers considering the Toyota Fortuner. The Combat would additionally stand out by offering a plug-in hybrid powertrain in this segment.

Exterior Design

The Combat is expected to retain the boxy styling of the Jetour T2, although JSW Motors will introduce subtle design changes. These could include revised headlamps, grille and bumpers, along with JSW branding.

The SUV gets upright proportions, squarish LED headlamps, chunky bumpers and extensive body cladding. Furthermore, it features 20-INCH alloy wheels, roof rails, vertically positioned LED tail-lamps and a rear-mounted spare wheel inside a squircle-shaped cover.

Interior & Features

Inside, the Combat is expected to feature a clean dashboard with a 15.6-INCH infotainment touchscreen and a 10.6-INCH digital driver’s display. A four-spoke steering wheel with JSW branding will also differentiate it from the Jetour T2.

Additionally, the global-spec T2 offers a 12-speaker audio system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a panoramic sunroof, powered and ventilated front seats and ambient lighting. Adaptive cruise control and a 540-degree camera system are also available.

Plug-In Hybrid Powertrain

The Combat is likely to use a 1.5-litre direct-injection turbo-petrol engine combined with two electric motors and an 18.4 KWH battery. In the global-spec Jetour T2, this setup produces 360 HP and 610 NM.

Power goes to the front wheels through a 3-speed dedicated hybrid transmission. Meanwhile, although the T2 is available with both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive globally, the Combat is expected to use front-wheel drive.

Electric Range & Charging

The 18.4 KWH battery provides an NEDC-claimed electric range of 90 KM in the global-spec T2. Furthermore, a 6.6 KW AC charger can charge the battery from 30–100 percent in around three hours.

A 50 KW DC charger can take the battery from 30–80 percent in approximately 27 minutes. Combined driving range stands at a claimed 1,200 KM. However, final specifications for the India-spec Combat could differ.

Prices In India

JSW Motors has not announced the Combat’s official price yet. However, the SUV is expected to sit in the Rs 30 lakh-50 lakh ex-showroom range.

The JSW Combat will mark JSW Motors’ entry into India’s premium SUV market. Its Jetour T2-based design, plug-in hybrid powertrain and expected Rs 30 lakh-50 lakh positioning could give it a distinct proposition.

Moreover, the combination of 360 HP, 610 NM and an electric driving range could help the Combat stand apart from conventional petrol, diesel and strong-hybrid SUVs in the segment.
