Jaguar has officially confirmed that its upcoming electric four-door GT will carry the name Type 01. The announcement arrives nearly one and a half years after Jaguar began its EV-only rebranding strategy. The British luxury marque also confirmed that prototypes of the new EV will appear publicly for the first time during the upcoming Monaco E-Prix weekend.
The production-spec version of the Type 01 will make its full global debut later in 2026. Jaguar expects this flagship EV to introduce a completely new design direction, advanced electric technology, and high-performance capabilities for the brand’s future lineup.
Jaguar Explains The Meaning Behind Type 01

Jaguar says the Type 01 name combines the company’s heritage with its future electric vision. According to the automaker, the word “Type” pays tribute to legendary Jaguar sports cars from the past. The “0” represents zero tailpipe emissions, while the “1” signals the beginning of Jaguar’s new electric era.
Jaguar has previously used the “Type” naming formula on several iconic models. These include the C-Type, D-Type and the famous E-Type. More recently, the discontinued Jaguar F-Type also carried the same naming philosophy before production ended in 2024.
Type 01 Prototypes To Debut At Monaco E-Prix

Jaguar will officially showcase the prototypes of the Type 01 at the 2026 Monaco Formula E-Prix. The prototypes will appear ahead of the Jaguar TCS Racing team’s race session and will wear a distinctive camouflage wrap specially created for the event.
The Monaco E-Prix takes place between May 16 and May 17. Jaguar believes the public appearance of the Type 01 prototypes will help introduce buyers and enthusiasts to the brand’s new design language before the final production model arrives later this year.
Jaguar Type 01 Design Details
Early test mule images reveal several important styling cues for the upcoming electric GT. The Jaguar Type 01 appears to feature a long bonnet, a sleek, sloping roofline, and upright front and rear sections. Jaguar has also placed Type 01 branding on the bonnet near the windshield.
The prototypes additionally showcase bold linear graphics and a futuristic overall silhouette. Jaguar aims to combine modern EV styling with traditional grand tourer proportions. The company says the design language used on the Type 01 will also influence future Jaguar electric models.
Jaguar Type 01 Powertrain & Range
Jaguar has not revealed every technical detail yet, but the company has confirmed several important specifications. The Type 01 will sit on the new Jaguar Electric Architecture platform and use a triple-motor setup producing around 1,000 HP and more than 1,300 NM of torque.
The luxury EV will also feature air suspension with twin-valve active dampers for improved ride and handling performance. Jaguar claims the Type 01 could deliver a WLTP-certified range of around 700 KM, making it one of the longest-range luxury EVs in its segment.
Conclusion

The Jaguar Type 01 represents one of the most important launches in the brand’s modern history. With its dramatic design, powerful triple-motor setup, and long driving range, the four-door GT will lead Jaguar’s transition into a fully electric luxury carmaker.
Jaguar plans to reveal the final production-spec Type 01 later in 2026. The EV is also expected to arrive in India by late 2027 or early 2028, where it could compete with upcoming electric luxury performance sedans from brands like Porsche, Mercedes-Benz, and Audi.
