Hyundai has revealed technical details of the next-generation Tucson at a media event in South Korea. The fifth-generation SUV will debut in its home market in October 2026. It gets larger dimensions, revised suspension, improved aerodynamics and new powertrain options. However, Hyundai has not confirmed plans to launch the new Tucson in India yet.

Larger Dimensions & Improved Space

The new Tucson is 60 MM longer and 40 MM wider than its predecessor. Its wheelbase has also increased by 30 MM. Hyundai says these changes have improved rear-seat space, with second-row headroom increasing by 29 MM to 1,031 MM. The rear doors can now open to 83 degrees, compared with 73 degrees on the outgoing model.

Revised Suspension & Chassis

Hyundai has strengthened the front suspension mounting points and the underbody structure supporting the rear suspension. The SUV also gets a new suspension valve and revised tuning to control body movements and reduce road shocks. The hybrid version uses an E-Traction system that uses the drive motor to help control body movement. Hyundai says the larger dimensions have not compromised cornering stability.

Improved Refinement & Aerodynamics

The new Tucson gets additional sound insulation for improved cabin refinement. Revised engine mounts, more dashboard sound-deadening and thicker door glass should reduce engine and wind noise. Hyundai has also reduced the drag coefficient from 0.33 to 0.30 on both petrol and hybrid versions. Active air flaps, a roof spoiler, a dedicated rear bumper spoiler and new 17-inch wheels contribute to the aerodynamic improvements.

1.6-Litre Turbo-Petrol Engine

The standard Tucson uses a 1.6-litre turbo-petrol engine producing 193 HP and 265 NM. An 8-speed automatic gearbox sends power to the wheels. Output has increased by 13 HP compared with the equivalent engine in the outgoing model.

The hybrid version combines the same 1.6-litre turbo-petrol engine with Hyundai’s next-generation hybrid system. The combined output stands at 245 HP. Hyundai claims a fuel efficiency figure of 17.4 KM/L. An Inertial Driving Guidance function can also prompt the driver to lift off the accelerator to improve efficiency.

Advanced Safety & Driver Assistance

The 2027 Tucson gets nine airbags as standard. Its safety technology includes navigation-based adaptive cruise control and front and rear collision-avoidance assistance. A memory-based reverse assist function can automatically steer the SUV by retracing a previous path. The Ground View function also displays the surface beneath the vehicle on the infotainment screen.

New Connectivity & Interior Technology

The new Tucson features Hyundai’s Pleos Connect system with integrated Gleo AI. It also supports third-party applications through the Pleos App Market. The dashboard gets a floating-style design, while the driver faces a slim digital instrument display and a large central touchscreen. Depending on the version, Hyundai will offer either a 12.9-inch or 17-inch screen.

The SUV will be available with four monotone and three dual-tone interior themes. Options include Mud Grey & Dove Grey, Black & Sand Beige and Black & Inlay Soil Brown.

New Art Of Steel Design

The fifth-generation Tucson adopts Hyundai’s Art of Steel design language. The front gets vertical H-shaped LED DRLs and a slim horizontal light strip. At the rear, the SUV features a prism-effect LED lighting design. Roof rails, flared wheel arches and conventional pull-type door handles complete the exterior.

The rugged XRT variant gets a different grille, wheel-arch garnish and skid plate. Hyundai will offer eight exterior colours, including five new shades: Serenity White Pearl, Driftwood Grey Matte, Driftwood Grey Metallic, Redrock Orange Matte and Goyo Copper Pearl.

India Launch & Availability

Hyundai has not announced an India launch timeline for the fifth-generation Tucson. The current model continues to be sold in India, while the new-generation SUV will first arrive in South Korea in October 2026. Hyundai could reveal its plans for other markets at a later stage.

Prices In India

Hyundai has not announced an India price for the fifth-generation Tucson. The SUV’s availability in India also remains unconfirmed. Therefore, its pricing and variant structure will be revealed only if Hyundai confirms an India launch.

Verdict

The 2027 Tucson brings significant changes across its structure, powertrains, suspension and technology. Its larger dimensions improve rear-seat space, while revised suspension and additional insulation target ride comfort and refinement. The new 1.6-litre turbo-petrol engine produces 193 HP, while the hybrid system raises combined output to 245 HP.

The new Tucson also introduces more advanced driver assistance, connected technology and Hyundai’s Art of Steel design language. However, its India launch remains unconfirmed, so specifications and equipment for the Indian market could differ from the South Korean model.
