Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) announced that the i10 has officially crossed the 3 million units sold mark in the Indian market. First launched in 2007, the compact hatchback has carved a steady niche for itself among urban commuters, as a good balance of economy, design, and convenience.

Hyundai i10 Achieves 30 Lakh Milestone

“We are proud of the historic achievement of surpassing 3 million cumulative sales of HMIL’s brand i10,” stated Unsoo Kim, Managing Director, HMIL, in response to the hatchback’s sales success. More than 90% of the hatchbacks for the Indian and international markets were made locally in India. According to Hyundai, the i10 has sold more than one lakh vehicles in India each year. The figure includes both the original i10 and the current Grand i10 NIOS, which continues to command a healthy share in urban and semi-urban markets.
The i10 comes with two powertrain options: a 1.2L naturally aspirated petrol and a 1.2L bi-fuel petrol engine with CNG. While the latter is only available in manual mode, the former is available in both manual and AMT modes.

Secret Behind The i10’s Success

The i10 was built for efficiency, maneuverability, and accessibility. Over the years, Hyundai refined the model with timely updates — from drivetrain upgrades to infotainment upgrades. The current generation, the Grand i10 NIOS, shows that Hyundai understands the market well, and knows what customers want: a compact footprint, peppy performance, and a premium interior. Hyundai’s aggressive dealer network expansion, aftersales support, and localization strategy further contributed to the i10’s continued success.

Future Prospects

As India moves toward stricter emissions, growing EV interest, and changing urban mobility needs, the question is not whether Hyundai can adapt — it’s how quickly the i10 can evolve again. A potential electric variant or an even tighter integration with connected car tech might be on the cards.
