SUV-Led Strategy To Strengthen Market Presence

Honda’s SUV portfolio will expand significantly over the next five years. The success of the Elevate has reaffirmed the brand’s position in the compact SUV segment, and the upcoming launches will build on that momentum. Honda CEO Toshihiro Mibe announced plans to launch over 10 models by 2030, including seven SUVs tailored for the Indian market. Some models will be global, while others will focus on Indian preferences. The company is also developing sportier and more lifestyle-oriented SUVs, including models derived from its global “0 Series” platform. This series will debut globally in 2026, with India expected to receive its first model, the Honda 0 α, by 2027. It will share components with the Elevate but feature a new architecture and software-driven design. Built in India, the 0 α will be exported to Japan and other Asian markets, positioning India as a key global hub for Honda’s manufacturing and design.

Electric Mobility To Play A Central Role

Honda’s long-term plan includes three new EVs for India, the first of which will debut in 2027. The company states that it will base this model on the Honda 0 Series and produce it locally at its Tapukara plant in Rajasthan. Honda also plans to develop a localized EV ecosystem, which includes setting up battery pack assembly, enhancing charging infrastructure, and partnering with suppliers for EV-specific components. The brand’s upcoming EVs will emphasize high efficiency, practical range, and fast-charging capabilities to suit Indian driving conditions. Honda aims to introduce advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) and connected car technologies in its future EV lineup, aligning with its global vision of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.

Future Outlook

To support this expansion, Honda aims to enhance local production capabilities and deepen its supplier network in India. The automaker’s Tapukara facility will play a crucial role in manufacturing both ICE and electrified vehicles, helping reduce costs and improve localization levels. The upcoming launches will cover a mix of petrol, hybrid, and electric powertrains, ensuring a gradual transition towards full electrification. By diversifying its portfolio and focusing on SUVs and EVs, Honda aims to re-establish itself as a major player in India’s competitive automotive landscape.
