Fresh Details Emerge On Jaguar’s Type 00

Jaguar’s Type 00 was in the news for all the wrong reasons when it was first showcased in December. The British luxury marque has recently unveiled more details about their all-new electric roadster, set to be revealed at the end of this year.

Performance & Chassis

This new super-GT is set to deliver a staggering 986 BHP, propelling it to speeds up to 257 KMPH. It can achieve a range of up to 692 KMPH. Jaguar boss Rawdon Glover said their chassis engineering team took the greatest Jaguars of all time, “spent days driving the vehicles” to see what gave them their character, “what is it about them that is unique and is inherently Jaguar, and what can we take from this?”. They didn’t want to create just a sports car, they wanted to create a car “you can drive confidently at pace for extended periods and still come out feeling great”.

Prototypes are being put through their paces on public roads, at JLR’s Gaydon proving ground, and even in the Arctic Circle. Glover noted that the focus so far has been on their new brand identity and design, with the company trying to highlight the car’s engineering, architecture, and dynamics.

Jaguar aims to win over sceptics and critics by capturing the essence of the marque’s best driving experiences in the new GT. Development has been a unified effort between design and engineering to preserve the brand’s heritage while trying to lead the way for modern designs.

Engineers faced the challenge of maintaining design integrity while meeting crash testing standards and aerodynamic performance targets. Glover expressed confidence in his team’s ability to deliver a vehicle that embodies the best of Jaguar’s driving characteristics.

Interior & Design

The Jaguar Type 00 was heavily criticised for its design when it was first showcased, due to its radical departure from the traditional Jaguar design language. It has sharp edges and angles, polarising opinions.

It features Jaguar’s new rebrand, representing their first vehicle after their “rebirth”. The upcoming GT represents a significant step in Jaguar’s commitment to becoming an all-electric brand. Jaguar aims to compete with rivals like Tesla and Porsche while retaining its unique identity. The four-door GT is only the beginning. Jaguar is poised to electrify its entire range, setting the stage for a new chapter in its storied history.

The cockpit is designed with premium materials and an intuitive layout, with a prominent beam separating the passenger and the driver’s seat. A 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster can be customised to show driving information. The passenger also has access to their display with entertainment and connectivity features built in.

Launch & Pricing

The Jaguar Type 00 will be launched globally next year, with prices expected to be around Rs 1.5 Crore and above. Information on an India debut is still awaited.
