Citroën has officially launched the Basalt X in India with prices starting at ₹7.95 lakh (ex-showroom). The SUV-coupé, first showcased earlier this year, is positioned as an entry-level offering that blends coupe-like styling with practical SUV proportions. Available in multiple trims, the Basalt X comes with petrol and turbo-petrol engine options and aims to strengthen Citroën’s foothold in the competitive compact SUV segment.

Features & Technology Inside

The interior of the Basalt X is equipped with a dual-tone cabin theme, featuring an updated infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support. It also comes with Cara, an advanced in-car conversational assistant developed by Citroën. Exclusive to the automatic variants of the Basalt X Max, Cara offers a wide range of smart functionalities. It can track live flight status, optimise routes based on traffic, provides vehicle health updates, enables SOS functions, sets smart reminders and more. Safety has also been given attention, with up to six airbags, electronic stability control, and a 360-degree camera available on higher trims.

Powertrain Options & Performance

Under the hood, the Basalt X is powered by a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine (82 HP, 115 NM) as well as a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol option (109 HP, 205 NM). The engines are paired with both manual and automatic transmissions. While Citroën has not positioned the Basalt X as a performance SUV, it has highlighted efficiency and ease of use as key strengths. The suspension setup is tuned for comfort, in line with the brand’s focus on ride quality.

Market Strategy

Starting at ₹7.95 lakh, the Basalt X is one of the most competitively priced coupe-SUVs in India. Higher variants go up to around ₹12.90 lakh, offering additional features and somewhat premium touches. This pricing strategy places it below many rivals in the segment, potentially giving Citroën an edge. The launch of the Basalt X also showcases Citroën’s 2.0 strategy, to strengthen its mass-market appeal in India.
