Citroen has teased the interior of the Basalt Coupe SUV in India, with the launch scheduled for August 2. This model marks Citroen’s fifth release in India since its entry into the market in early 2021. The coupe’s deliveries will likely start around the festive season later this year.

Citroen Basalt — Interior:

The latest teaser reveals that the Citroen Basalt will feature an interior similar to the C3 Aircross and C3. It will include adjustable rear headrests, a rear armrest with cup holders, a front centre armrest, and leather upholstery.

Citroen Basalt — Features:

In addition to the interior teaser, Citroen has released a new preview showcasing the Basalt’s features. The Basalt will include a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with a digital instrument cluster and automatic climate control. Wireless charging will also be available.

The Basalt will offer the following features:

  • 6 airbags
  • Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
  • 10.25-inch infotainment system
  • Digital instrument cluster
  • Automatic climate control

Citroen Basalt — Exterior:

The Basalt will feature a coupe’s signature sloping roofline and a distinctive rear-end design with wraparound LED taillights and a slightly aggressive rear bumper. It will also sport diamond-cut alloy wheels and old-school flap-style door handles.

At the front, the Basalt will continue with the signature grille that extends from the Citroen logo in the centre, complemented by projector LED headlights and LED DRLs similar to those on the C3 Aircross. The lower front bumper will have a new design with sporty red accents.

Additional exterior highlights include faux skid plates on the front and gloss black cladding on the squared wheel arches, door sills, and rear bumpers.

Citroen Basalt — Engine:

Under the hood, the Basalt will be powered by the same 1.2L turbo-petrol engine found in the C3 Aircross, delivering 109 HP and 190 NM, 205 NM in the AT. It will come with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed AT, with no diesel engine option.

Indian Buyers’ Thoughts On The Basalt

With the recent showcase of the Curvv, Indian consumers are enthusiastic about the new mass-market coupe segment. While the Curvv has received mixed reviews on its design, the Basalt appears to be well-received by the public. However, some buyers are disappointed that the Basalt still features traditional flap door handles. There are also hopes that Citroen will include more features in the Basalt, as the brand is known for offering fewer features in its vehicles.

Similar Models To The Citroen Basalt From Citroen Abroad

The Citroen C3X and C4 are similar models to the Basalt, featuring coupe-like styling. However, they are larger in size. These models provide more interior space, a wider range of engine options, and additional safety features. They also include additional features such as a larger infotainment system, enhanced sound systems, and ADAS. The car shown in the image above is the Citroen C4“.

Citroen Basalt — Rivals And Launch Date:

The Basalt will compete with the Hyundai Creta, Maruti Grand Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, VW Taigun, Honda Elevate, Tata Curvv coupe-SUV, and Skoda Kushaq. The coupe SUV is set to debut on August 2nd.
