BYD India has announced that the Sealion 7 electric SUV will see a price increase starting January 1, 2026. The company has not disclosed the size of the hike yet, but it has clarified that the current prices remain valid for all bookings made on or before December 31, 2025. This update comes less than a year after the SUV’s debut in February 2025, during which it entered the premium EV space. The Sealion 7 takes on rivals such as the BMW iX1, Tesla Model Y, Kia EV6, Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Volvo EX40. The announcement also shows the model’s strong early momentum, as BYD has already sold over 2,000 units in India.

Current Prices & Variants Continue Until December 31

The Sealion 7 is available in two variants, Premium and Performance, priced at ₹48.90 lakh and ₹54.90 lakh respectively. These ex showroom figures position the SUV as BYD’s flagship model in India and place it between entry luxury EVs and higher priced global competitors. BYD has stated that customers who book the SUV before the end of 2025 will receive these prices even if the delivery takes place in 2026. The move allows buyers a short window to secure the model at the introductory figures before the updated price list takes effect. The company has also expanded its retail network, now covering 47 showrooms across 40 cities, which supports the SUV’s growing reach.

Battery, Range, & Performance Highlights

The Sealion 7 uses an 82.56 kWh LFP battery with two powertrain layouts. The Premium variant runs a single rear motor that produces 308 HP (313 PS) and 380 NM, offering a claimed range of up to 567 KM (ARAI). The Performance variant adds a front motor to create an AWD setup that raises total output to 523 HP and 690 NM, with a claimed range of up to 542 KM (ARAI). The SUV’s footprint of 4,830 MM in length and a 2,930 MM wheelbase places it among the larger models in its category. The Performance variant can complete the 0 to 100 KM/H sprint in 4.5 seconds, which is one of the strongest figures in its price band.

Expected Impact Of The Price Hike

The decision to revise prices at the start of 2026 likely reflects rising input costs and the model’s positioning in a fast growing premium EV market. The strong initial demand suggests that the Sealion 7 has found traction among buyers looking for long range capability, strong performance and a feature rich cabin at a price lower than luxury EVs. A price increase may narrow that advantage, but the SUV’s specifications and safety rating give it a solid holding as competition intensifies.
