BMW India will launch the X1 Long Wheelbase (LWB) on August 21. The upcoming luxury SUV will become BMW’s most affordable combustion-powered long-wheelbase model in the Indian market. It will also serve as the petrol-powered counterpart to the recently introduced BMW iX1 LWB.
Originally developed for the Chinese market, the X1 LWB offers a longer wheelbase, improved rear-seat comfort and additional practicality. As a result, it aims to attract buyers who prioritise rear-seat space without moving to a larger luxury SUV.
Exterior Retains Familiar Design With Larger Dimensions
The BMW X1 LWB measures 4,616 MM in length, 1,845 MM in width and 1,641 MM in height. Moreover, its wheelbase grows by 110 MM, while the overall length increases by 116 MM compared to the standard X1.
The design remains largely unchanged. The SUV continues with sleek LED headlamps, signature kidney grilles, LED tail-lamps and a sporty crossover profile. Meanwhile, the India-spec model is expected to use 18-inch alloy wheels to improve ride comfort.
Cabin Offers More Space & Premium Features
Inside, the dashboard layout remains identical to the standard X1. However, the longer wheelbase creates significantly more rear legroom. In addition, BMW has raised the rear seat height by 27 MM and widened the rear headrest cushions by 37 MM for greater comfort.
The boot capacity also increases to 540 litres. Furthermore, the SUV is expected to offer a 10.7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, powered front seats, automatic climate control, wireless charging and a Harman Kardon sound system.
Convenience & Technology Remain Comprehensive
The BMW X1 LWB is expected to feature connected car technology, a powered tailgate, a digital key and automatic parking assist. Additionally, buyers will get multiple comfort features designed to improve the overall ownership experience.

2.0-Litre Turbo-Petrol Engine Expected
The India-spec BMW X1 LWB is expected to use a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine. The engine produces 204 HP and 300 NM in the international model. It also comes paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
The front-wheel-drive version accelerates from 0-100 KM/H in 7.9 seconds, while the all-wheel-drive model completes the sprint in 7.7 seconds. However, BMW India is yet to confirm the final engine and drivetrain options for the Indian market.
Prices In India
BMW India has not announced the official price of the X1 LWB. However, the luxury SUV is expected to carry a premium over the standard BMW X1, which is currently priced between Rs 50.90 lakh and Rs 52.90 lakh (ex-showroom). The official pricing will be announced at the launch on August 21.
